SUMMARY:A Christmas Carol by Abingdon Drama Club
DESCRIPTION:A Christmas Carol by Abingdon Drama Club\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout A Christmas Carol by Abingdon Drama Club\n\n\n\nWritten by Charles DickensAdapted by David EdgarDirected by Susi Dalton \n\n\n\nJoin Abingdon Drama Club for a ghostly Christmas night as cold-hearted businessman Ebenezer Scrooge (Adam Blake) faces the fright of his life\, uncovers the truth about himself\, and learns to love his neighbour. \n\n\n\nThis adaptation by David Edgar of Charles Dickens’s classic A Christmas Carol reawakens the social conscience of this timeless tale. Through time jumps\, we witness Scrooge’s past\, explore the present around him\, and confront the shocking future that awaits. \n\n\n\nAll the beloved characters are present\, with a unique twist that delves into the parliamentary reports of the 1840s on issues like abolishing rotten boroughs and establishing workhouses\, highlighting Dickens’ keen awareness of societal issues. \n\n\n\nDirected by the talented Susi Dalton\, this clever and engaging adaptation is brought to life on the Unicorn stage by Abingdon Drama Club. Edgar has reinvented this quintessentially Victorian story\, featuring Dickens himself (Terry Atkinson) narrating alongside his editor and friend\, John Forster (Kieran Madden). \n\n\n\nThe play opens with Dickens grappling to write another book on poverty and child labour\, as Forster suggests this may be too grim for a Christmas audience. Together\, they construct the narrative before our eyes\, offering a fascinating insight into Dickens’ creative process. \n\n\n\nDon’t miss this enchanting performance\, marking the final production in ADC’s 80th Anniversary year! \n\n\n\n“I love exploring different interpretations of well-known classics. I previously directed another unique version of A Christmas Carol\, and I chose David Edgar’s adaptation to embrace new challenges and enrich the original story we all cherish.” \n\n\n\n“I’m excited to direct this version with our wonderful actors\, confident that together we will create a memorable production for Abingdon Drama Club.” —Susi Dalton \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:Standard price – £12.00\,Concessions – £10.00 (65+\, under 19\, students\, ADC/ODN members\, Group bookings of 10+ tickets) \n\n\n\n\nFor groups of 10 and over\, simply select the concession rate tickets and choose the required number of thickets.\n\n\n\nAll tickets are sold as UNRESERVED SEATING.\n\n\n\nThe Front of House team will do their very best to seat people together\, but please arrive in good time\, or this may not be possible.\n\n\n\nTickets are also available from The Bookstore\, The Abingdon Precinct\, 15 Bury Street\, Abingdon.\n\n\n\n\nDates & times:Wednesday 27 November at 7.30pmThursday 28 November at 7.30pmFriday 29 November at 7.30pmSaturday 30 November at 2.30pm and 7.30pm

DESCRIPTION:Cheung Yee and his 1960s Hong Kong Contemporaries. Images (left to right): Everlasting 2/50\, Cheung Yee\, 1977\, red relief on cast paper. Family\, Cheung Yee\, 1960-1969. Chan Painting\, Lui Shou-Kwan\, 1969.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Cheung Yee and his 1960s Hong Kong Contemporaries\n\n\n\nThis exhibition showcases newly-acquired works for the Ashmolean by the Hong Kong artist Cheung Yee (1936–2019). It will be the first substantial display of his work outside Hong Kong\, including sculpture and works on paper. \n\n\n\nCheung Yee was a leading figure of innovation in the Hong Kong art scene\, especially during the 1960s\, when the city established its own identity as an artistic centre. \n\n\n\nHis work will be shown alongside those by Lui Shou-Kwan (1919–75)\, Wucius Wong (b.1936)\, Liu Kuo-sung (b.1932) and others from the avant-garde Circle Art Group. \n\n\n\nDisplayed with his peers\, the works highlight Cheung Yee’s connection with a generation of modern art pioneers from Hong Kong and Taiwan in the latter 20th century. \n\n\n\nAlthough Cheung Yee is mainly known as a sculptor\, the Ashmolean exhibition will include some outstanding examples of his experiments with works on paper. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:Admission is FREE \n\n\n\nDate and times:From 30 November 2024 to 09 November 2025 \n\n\n\nThe museum is open every day from 10.00am to 5.00pm \n\n\n\nLocation:Gallery 11\, ground floor

The film also features Miss Piggy as Emily Cratchit\, Fozzie Bear as Fozziwig\, and Robin the Frog as Tiny Tim. \n\n\n\nWhen the grumpy Scrooge receives Christmas Eve visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past\, Present and Future\, they show him the error of his self-serving ways. \n\n\n\nThough the miserable old man seems beyond any hope of redemption and happiness\, the kind and humble Bob Cratchit\, his family\, and the Spirits open Scrooge’s eyes and heart to the true meaning of Christmas. \n\n\n\nThe original score was composed by Miles Goodman (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels\, Little Shop of Horrors) with songs by Oscar®\, Emmy® and Grammy®-winning songwriter Paul Williams (Rainbow Connection\, Evergreen). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDisney’s The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert Live to Film\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee. \n\n\n\nSee important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nAge guidance:Suitable for all ages \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nThere has been a theatre on George Street for almost 170 years. Poulenc’s trio\, his first major chamber work\, is noted for its depth of feeling\, with touches of Mozartian flavour and echoes of other composers’ styles yet retaining its youthful verve. \n\n\n\nKieron-Connor Valentine and André Bertoncini\, prize-winners in the 2023 Bampton Young Singers’ Competition\, join with songs and arias by the same composers as well as a foray into some contrasting light music\, including some Welsh songs. \n\n\n\nPoulenc: Trio for oboe\, bassoon and piano \n\n\n\nMozart: Arias from Mitridate\, re di Ponto:‘Son Reo L’error Confesso’‘Gia dagli occhi il velo e tolto’ \n\n\n\nRhys Jones: Cilfan y coedT Osborne Roberts: Y Gwanwyn Du \n\n\n\nAlain Boublil/Claude-Michel Schoenberg: I Dreamed a Dream (from ‘Les Misérables’) \n\n\n\nJake Heggie/Frederica von Stade: Paper Wings: A Route to the Sky \n\n\n\nINTERVAL \n\n\n\nPoulenc: Hotel \n\n\n\nAmanda McBroom: Calon Lan / The Rose \n\n\n\nCharlie Chaplin: Smile (from ‘Modern Times’) \n\n\n\nIrving Berlin: White Christmas \n\n\n\nW A Mozart: Quintet in E flat major for piano and wind \n\n\n\n(programme order may change) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:Standard ticktets – £20.00Under 18s tickets – £10.00 \n\n\n\nTickets are available from the Box Office at 01993 851142 or online
