SUMMARY:Terrible Tales & Dreadful Decisions: Write Your Own Wicked Cautionary Tale
DESCRIPTION:Terrible Tales & Dreadful Decisions: Write Your Own Wicked Cautionary Tale\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Terrible Tales & Dreadful Decisions: Write Your Own Wicked Cautionary Tale\n\n\n\nJoin authors Lizzie Shannon-Little and Gerard Lewis for a playful\, creative writing workshop inspired by classic cautionary tales – from Aesop’s Fables to Hilaire Belloc and their own darkly humorous poetry collection\, The Tale of the Propeller Man and Other Stories. \n\n\n\nChildren will explore why warning stories are funny\, frightening\, and strangely irresistible\, before inventing and writing their own wicked poems about dreadful decisions and disastrous consequences. \n\n\n\nThis interactive session encourages imagination\, discussion\, and creative confidence. It is best suited to confident readers and independent writers aged 8 to 12. Younger siblings are welcome to attend with adults and can take part through drawing\, discussion\, and imaginative play alongside the writing activities. \n\n\n\nExpect laughter\, mischief\, and delightfully terrible ideas. \n\n\n\nThe session runs 10.30pm to 12.30pm. \n\n\n\nPlease make sure to arrive on time. A 10-minute grace period is allowed for late arrivals. After this point\, admission to the activity cannot be guaranteed. \n\n\n\nBooking in advance to secure your place is recommended. Sales from tickets help support our work to deliver fun and accessible family activities\, community engagement projects\, schools’ workshops\, exhibitions and special events for Oxford’s people in our Museum spaces. \n\n\n\nAbout the authors \n\n\n\nLizzie Shannon-Little and Gerard Lewis are Oxfordshire-based writers who met at a writing group in Oxford and have been collaborating creatively for well over a decade. Their darkly humorous poetry collection\, The Tale of the Propeller Man and Other Stories\, draws inspiration from classic cautionary tales and the wicked wit of writers such as Dr Heinrich Hoffmann and Hilaire Belloc. \n\n\n\nLizzie is an artist and writer with a fascination for myth\, dark storytelling\, and all things slightly strange\, balancing her creative practice with a career in communications. Gerard is an author\, playwright\, and musician whose work spans novels\, theatre\, and song\, and whose unused stories for this book were (apparently) too dark even for publication. \n\n\n\nAccess \n\n\n\nThe Museum is accessible for wheelchair users\, buggies\, and baby carriers. There is step-free\, level entry access to the Town Hall via the entrance closest to Carfax (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). Inside the Museum\, Museum Makers is accessible via a platform lift and lift to the basement level. Accessible toilets are available in the Museum (close to Museum Makers) and in the Town Hall on the ground floor\, before entering the Museum. \n\n\n\nPlease contact the Museum team if you’d like to talk to a member of staff about your access requirements. Further access information can be found on the website: https://museumofoxford.org/plan-your-visit/access \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£1.50 per child \n\n\n\nEach child ticket includes free entry for one accompanying adult. This event ticket includes access to the Galleries for one child and one adult. \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nTuesday 09 April 2026 at 10.30am \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n8 to 12 \n\n\n\nChildren must be supervised at all times. \n\n\n\nGood to know: \n\n\n\nPlease be aware that photographs will be taken at this event for use in marketing. Located inside the Oxford Town Hall\, it explores the city’s rich history beyond the university\, focusing on the lives\, industries\, and communities that have shaped Oxford over time. \n\n\n\nThe museum features interactive exhibits\, local artefacts\, and personal stories\, covering topics such as Oxford’s medieval origins\, its diverse communities\, and key moments in its development. It also hosts temporary exhibitions\, events\, and activities for all ages. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about the Museum of Oxford.

SUMMARY:Ray Bradshaw: Coda
DESCRIPTION:Ray Bradshaw: Coda\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Ray Bradshaw: Coda\n\n\n\n1 in 6 adults in the UK will lose their hearing in their lifetime; two of those are Ray Bradshaw’s parents. The multi-award-winning comedian is back on tour with a brand-new show all about growing up as a CODA: a Child of Deaf Adults. His upbringing was nothing like the Oscar-winning film and he’s here to tell you why. \n\n\n\nCODA is a funny\, heartwarming show all about the brilliant things that happen when you grow up in a house where sign language is the first language used; whether it’s watching his dad shut his eyes to win any argument or beating his in-laws easily when they suggested playing charades against a deaf family on Christmas Day. \n\n\n\nRay’s previous shows\, Deaf Com One and Doppelginger\, were huge successes and sold-out theatres across the world. As this show is all about growing up with deaf parents\, every show of CODA will have a BSL interpreter. Ray has previously supported John Bishop on his UK arena tour after John described him as ‘one of the best comedians in the country’. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“One of the best comedians in the country.” \n\n\n\nJohn Bishop \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nStandard – £23.50 \n\n\n\nConcessions – £20.50 \n\n\n\nAll prices include any booking fees \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nFriday 10 April 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n 1 hour 50 minutes \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nThe Theatre \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n14+ only \n\n\n\nGood to know: \n\n\n\nThis performance will be BSL interpreted \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Theatre Chipping Norton\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Theatre Chipping Norton\, sometimes called The Theatre\, Chipping Norton or Chipping Norton Theatre\, is a theatre\, an arthouse cinema\, a gallery and a concert hall in Chipping Norton. \n\n\n\nThe theatre has has 217 seats\, including stalls and a balcony. It is a resource for the community\, and it is also a professional venue\, welcoming over 55\,000 customer visits every year. \n\n\n\nIt is something unique\, but it is also different things to different people. It is the cause and subject of many arguments and debates; and a fair amount of acclaim and affection. It is complicated and a little eccentric. \n\n\n\nIt is not a little theatre. It likes to make a big noise. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about The Theatre Chipping Norton\, including travel\, access and venue information.

Please arrive 5 minutes before the start of the walk and check in at the Museum Shop with our friendly front-of-house team.  \n\n\n\nThe walk lasts 1.5 hours.   \n\n\n\nThe itinerary includes cobbled streets\, uneven surfaces\, and narrow pavements. One of the stops involves going through Whatsheaf Yard which is very narrow and has an uneven surface. An alternative route to the next stop is available through St Aldate’s. Please email museum@oxford.gov.uk if you would like to discuss any access requirements ahead of booking a walk.  \n\n\n\nMeet your tour guide: Liz Woolley \n\n\n\nLiz Woolley is a local historian specialising in the history of Oxford’s ‘town’ – as opposed to ‘gown’ – and of the everyday lives of ordinary working people\, chiefly during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Liz has lived in Oxford for forty years and has an MSc in English Local History from the University’s Department for Continuing Education. She is an experienced tour guide\, speaker\, tutor\, researcher\, and writer\, who enjoys helping people discover the perhaps less well-known history of Oxford and its citizens. \n\n\n\nAccess at the Museum \n\n\n\nThe Museum is accessible for wheelchair users\, buggies\, and baby carriers. There is step-free\, level entry access to the Town Hall via the entrance closest to Carfax (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). SUMMARY:Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Nicola Benedetti
DESCRIPTION:Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Nicola Benedetti\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Nicola Benedetti\n\n\n\nElgar Violin Concerto in B minor\, Op. 61 \n\n\n\nElgar Enigma Variations\, Op. 36 \n\n\n\nNicola Benedetti violin \n\n\n\nMarios Papadopoulos conductor \n\n\n\nThe great violinist Fritz Kreisler rated Edward Elgar alongside Beethoven and Brahms. When Kreisler said as much in a 1905 newspaper interview\, Elgar picked up the threads of a concerto he’d begun nearly two decades earlier. \n\n\n\nThe piece he finished five years later\, performed in this concert by the exceptional Nicola Benedetti\, is as epic and emotive as it is personal and elusive\, ‘enshrining the soul’ of an unknown person. \n\n\n\nA more famous enigma is found in Elgar’s dazzlingly virtuosic set of variations for orchestra. His Enigma Variations are portraits of friends and celebrations of orchestral panache. But they also offer glimpses into the soul of an artist who might have been careful not to reveal his secrets but was never afraid to show his emotions. \n\n\n\nElgar the ‘great English progressivist’ \n\n\n\nEdward Elgar is often thought of as a conservative\, but Richard Strauss hailed him as adventurous and forward-looking. Nicholas Kenyon explores Elgar as he created pioneering 20th-century music and became a composer of unforgettable masterpieces. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £20.00 \n\n\n\n(Students from £5.00) \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 15 April 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours \n\n\n\nGood to know: \n\n\n\nPre-concert talk given by Sir Nicholas Kenyon at 6.30pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Sheldonian Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nHome to ceremonial occasions and a raft of exciting events\, the magnificent and versatile Sheldonian Theatre is the focal point of the University of Oxford and is a unique space to experience live music. \n\n\n\nTo see an interactive map of the theatre\, click here. \n\n\n\nFind out more about the Sheldonian Theatre\, including facilities\, access and venue information.
