DESCRIPTION:St Giles’ Fair at Oxford City Centre\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout St Giles’ Fair 2026\n\n\n\nSt Giles’ Fair 2026 will take place on Monday 07 and Tuesday 08 September\, from 11.00am to 11.00pm on both days. \n\n\n\nSt Giles’ Fair is one of the greatest and most prestigious in the country. The fair dates back to 1625 when it was a parish festival to celebrate the feast of the patron saint\, St Giles\, and is held on the Monday and Tuesday following the first Sunday after St Giles’ Day (01 September). \n\n\n\nIn the 18th century\, it was a toy fair\, and then in the early 19th century\, it was a general children’s fair. The funfair grew during mid and late Victorian times when improved means of transport meant that large numbers of people could be brought into the city to attend the festivities. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore Oxford Preservation Trust sites\, including the Painted Room\, Rewley Road Swing Bridge\, and North Hinksey Conduit House. \n\n\n\nHighlights from previous events include historic sites such as Slade Camp\, the former army training ground that later became home to families displaced after the Second World War\, and Oxford Castleyard\, which hosted demonstrations of heritage skills\, stone carving\, classic cars\, and hands-on screen printing workshops. \n\n\n\nGuided walks revealed overlooked and rarely accessible spaces\, from the geology of Holywell Cemetery to Love Lane\, closed to the public for over a century. Transport and waterway heritage featured prominently\, with heritage bus tours from the Oxford Bus Museum\, a Canal & River Trust pop-up at Isis Lock\, and public access to the Corpus Christi College Barge\, accompanied by an exhibition of historic photographs. \n\n\n\nOxford Open Doors is organised by Oxford Preservation Trust\, an independent charity founded in 1927\, dedicated to enabling public access to Oxford’s historic places. It is now owned by the Ambassador Theatre Group and hosts everything from ballet and opera to musicals. \n\n\n\nOn performance days\, the Box Office opens at noon and closes 15 minutes after the show starts. If there is a performance on a Sunday or Bank Holiday\, Box Office will open 2 hours before the show begins and close 15 minutes after the show starts. \n\n\n\nThere is a large air-conditioned bar with seating located below the Stalls Foyer\, two further bars in the Circle Foyer and an additional one at the back of the balcony. After the three-and-a-half hours cut-off time\, runners will not be stopped. Instead\, stewards will ask any runners left to move to the pavement so streets can reopen. Their medals will still be waiting for them at the finish line. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get to the Oxford Half Marathon?+\n\n\n\n\nAs always\, if you can’t get there by foot\, we advice you to travel by public transport. Any runners relying on travelling by car\, however\, should use either the Redbridge Park & Ride or Thornhill Park & Ride sites because the city centre will have various road closures in place on the day (more on these later). \n\n\n\nIN previouse events\, parking and bus tickets were available in advance (up to four days before the date of travel) via the RingGo app. Tickets provide return travel to central Oxford and 12 hours of parking. Anyone who has purchased in advance will just need to show the driver their RingGo app confirmation. Up to two adult tickets per car can be purchased in this way; if you have more than two adults travelling\, additional return travel can be bought in person on the day. \n\n\n\nThere are no train services from London that arrive in Oxford in time for you to make the start line on time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAre there any road closures?+\n\n\n\n\nYes\, there will be a lot of road closures in place during the event – with the majority closing from 8.00am on Sunday (Holywell Street\, however\, will shut at 6.00am). Others will be closed from Saturday. \n\n\n\nRoads will then begin reopening gradually from 11.00am (Magdalen Street East and St Giles) until the final roads (Broad Street\, Museum Road\, and Parks Road) reopen at 6.0pm. \n\n\n\nFull details of road closures – including details of closures the day before the race – can be found at \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere are the best places for spectators?+\n\n\n\n\nBeing a city centre half marathon\, there is no bad place from which to cheer the runners as they go by. \n\n\n\nThere are plenty of places where the route will provide an amazing backdrop for photos of friends and family out on the course and other spots where you’ll be able to see people go by twice as they loop back down the same road. \n\n\n\nCheck out the map for a better idea of where to stand – it may depend on where you think the person you’re supporting could most do with seeing a friendly face in the crowd. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWill there be on-course entertainment?+\n\n\n\n\nPlenty. DESCRIPTION:Level 42 announce Oxford show on 45th anniversary UK tour\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout LEVEL 42\n\n\n\nLEVEL 42 will be heading out on a five-date UK tour in December 2026 to mark 45 years since their first studio album\, 1981’s ‘Level 42’. \n\n\n\nTheir ‘Level 42’ self-titled\, debut studio album was merely the first step in an incredible career for the band who continue to set the benchmark for British Jazz Funk. \n\n\n\nTo date\, the band have released 14 studio albums\, had 18 top 40 singles including the era-defining ‘Lessons in Love’\, ‘Something About You’\, ‘Leaving Me Now’\, ‘Running in the Family’\, and ‘Hot Water’\, sold out Wembley Arena for a total of 21 nights\, and sold in excess of 30 million albums worldwide. \n\n\n\nForty five years on from that first album\, Level 42 are still in demand the world over. It is now owned by the Ambassador Theatre Group and hosts everything from ballet and opera to musicals. \n\n\n\nOn performance days\, the Box Office opens at noon and closes 15 minutes after the show starts. If there is a performance on a Sunday or Bank Holiday\, Box Office will open 2 hours before the show begins and close 15 minutes after the show starts. \n\n\n\nThere is a large air-conditioned bar with seating located below the Stalls Foyer\, two further bars in the Circle Foyer and an additional one at the back of the balcony. All stocked with an array of drinks and snacks. \n\n\n\nThere is a cloakroom located in the stalls bar. If this is closed\, please speak to a member of staff. £1 per item.
