DESCRIPTION:Stories of Oxford Tours\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Stories of Oxford Tours\n\n\n\nThese guided tours are led by a dedicated volunteer team and will give you an introduction to the people and stories of Oxford. \n\n\n\nThe guides will take you on their personalised highlights tour around the Museum\, lasting 30-45 minutes\, with time for questions at the end. \n\n\n\nFrom football to fairgrounds\, marmalade to Morris Motors\, patron saints to pubs\, barges\, bones\, and all types of quirky customs — there’s something for everyone in the stories of Oxford and its people. \n\n\n\nMeet in the Museum of Oxford’s Gift Shop\, inside the Oxford Town Hall. \n\n\n\nEach tour has a capacity of 10 people. \n\n\n\nThere are several topics to choose from as follows: \n\n\n\nA history of Oxford in 6 objects  \n\n\n\nAlways wanted to know about our city? Come and listen to a guide take you from Saxon times to the present day. The guide will use six objects to explain Oxford’s history\, including the city origins\, the city and the University\, the English Civil War\, literary Oxford\, scientific Oxford and industrial Oxford. \n\n\n\nAn introduction to Oxford’s past \n\n\n\nWhat is it that is unique about Oxford? The city is well known around the world. This tour identifies some of the features that have made the city so special. From the Saxon period when the city was already an important settlement\, through the development of the university\, the important role played by the city in the English Civil Wars\, to more recent features such as the growth of the car industry under the leadership of William Morris\, the Covered Market and the important literary figures linked to the city\, the tour will give you an insight which should stimulate interest in finding out more. The Museum is an ideal starting point for you to discover Oxford’s amazing past. \n\n\n\nArtisan Oxford: Arts\, Crafts\, and Creations \n\n\n\nWhat connects James Bond’s favourite breakfast with the South Pole? How did a small Oxford boutique become the “Holy Grail” of fashion? Encompassing cutting-edge design\, folk frivolities\, and extremely rare architecture\, (not the spire kind); Oxford Arts is unique. Explore our city’s rich creative heritage through a hand-picked selection of artisan objects. \n\n\n\nOxford Night Out \n\n\n\nSince medieval times Oxford has been famous for its vibrant social and cultural scene\, making it one of the best places for a night out in the UK. In this tour\, we will explore four aspects of a night out in Oxford through the ages: pubs\, music venues\, cinema and theatre\, and St. Giles Fair\, highlighting topics of celebrity\, disorder\, and hygiene. I hope you can join me on what promises to be an exciting and\, at times\, surprising\, tour. \n\n\n\nThe Oxford Story \n\n\n\nThis tour will explore the stories of the city\, and the city of stories. DESCRIPTION:Wallingford BunkFest\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout BunkFest 2025\n\n\n\nOn the banks of the Thames in South Oxfordshire\, Wallingford BunkFest is a free-access community festival providing a unique\, family-friendly celebration with something for everyone. \n\n\n\nIn 2025\, BunkFest celebrates its 23rd year of life – starting from a small marquee in a pub car park to filling the KineCroft and providing entertainment throughout Wallingford\, on the River Thames and the Bunk Railway line. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBunkFest 2025 lineup\n\n\n\nBunkFest 2025 lineup is yet to be announced. But in the meantime here’s some information from 2024 to give you a flavour of what to expect. \n\n\n\nFriday Headline Act: BaskeryBaskery is Greta\, Stella and Sunniva Bondesson\, a trio of sisters from Stockholm\, Sweden. The band’s motto\, to go where the music takes them\, has created organic growth\, and their energetic and diverse live shows have made them an attractive and sought-after live band. \n\n\n\nThey’ve been handpicked as support act for Gary Clark Jr\, Robbie Williams\, Seth Lakeman\, Lukas Nelson and Brandi Carlile and have appeared at festivals in the UK — Glastonbury\, Shrewsbury Folk\, Solfest\, Shambala and worldwide. \n\n\n\nIn 2022\, they teamed up with producer Sean Lakeman (The Levellers\, Billy Bragg\, Imelda May) in a timeless Devon hideaway studio\, far from any distractions\, to record their fifth album. The collaboration was mutually inspiring\, resulting in a diverse sound landscape. \n\n\n\nFriday other acts:Split The Dealer / C U Tuesday / The Dunwells / The Cornermen \n\n\n\nSaturday Headline Act: GenoGeno originates from Evansville in Indiana\, USA and first came to England in the 1960s as part of the US Air Force. The rest\, as they say\, is history. \n\n\n\nGeno teamed up with some of London’s hottest musicians and Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band very quickly became established as the most exciting live band in Britain\, regularly topping the bill over World famous artists\, as nobody in their right mind wanted to go on stage after a Geno show! \n\n\n\nSaturday other acts:The Mysteries / Steve Morano / Chrome Horse diplomats / Maff and The Magictones / Offbeat / Far From The City \n\n\n\nSunday headliner: DS:UKDire Straits is one of the most beloved bands in UK Rock History and Mark Knopfler is one of the most respected songwriters and guitarists of our time – penning an incredible legacy of classic music that still gets more radio airtime than most. \n\n\n\nDS:UK began touring in 2016 in their loving tribute to this amazing band\, focusing on performing Mark’s music in the way that the fans love it and remember it. That is to say – with an unsurpassed accuracy and affection for the material. \n\n\n\n“DS:UK…in Tribute to Dire Straits” has earned its reputation as the quintessential Dire Straits Experience by presenting a rollercoaster ride of meticulously performed hits and fan favourites that span the 20-odd years of the band’s rein\, peppered with interesting history. \n\n\n\nDS:UK’s festival appearances bring together your favourites including Tunnel of Love\, Heavy Fuel\, Lady Writer\, Twisting by the Pool – and all of the other hits you were expecting to read in this list! You know what they are… \n\n\n\n…. SUMMARY:Joy of Scything Summer Workshop at Cogges
DESCRIPTION:Joy of Scything Summer Workshop at Cogges\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Joy of Scything Summer Workshop at Cogges\n\n\n\nThis one day course is designed to introduce you to using and looking after an Austrian scythe. The course is suitable for a range of experience levels\, from complete beginners to those who have been using a scythe but feel that it could be working better for them. \n\n\n\nThe structure of the day will be as follows: \n\n\n\n\nIntroduction and familiarisation\n\n\n\nSetting up an Austrian scythe\n\n\n\nMovement and technique\n\n\n\nMowing practice\n\n\n\nSharpening in the field\n\n\n\nMaintenance and peening of the blade\n\n\n\nThere will be a break for lunch at 12.30pm\n\n\n\n\nThe scythe is a highly efficient tool and is regarded as the appropriate technology for a wide variety of situations\, much wider than many would think\, from meadows and reedbeds to allotments and lawns\, in professional and amateur contexts. In addition to its efficiency\, versatility\, outstanding green credentials\, and health benefits for both body and mind\, the scythe is an extremely cost-effective tool. Once set up with a basic kit no further outlay is required\, and maintenance is simple and enjoyable. \n\n\n\nAbout the tutor \n\n\n\nNicole Clough is a Scythe Teacher and regional contact for the Scythe Association of Britain & Ireland. Find out more. \n\n\n\n“I train because I’m passionate about everyone getting a good initial experience with scything. The scythe has had bad press over recent years\, the main implications being that they are hard work\, cause backache\, and are less efficient than their machine equivalents. Yet the truth is quite the opposite. They are easy and a pleasure to use once the basic principles are understood; in fact\, many people fall in love with scything once they have tried it.” \n\n\n\nCourse details \n\n\n\nPlease arrive in time for a 10.00am start. The course is expected to finish by 4.30pm. \n\n\n\nThere will be a break for lunch. Due to the nature of the training\, the course will be held outside in the paddocks and meadow at Cogges\, therefore please wear or bring suitable clothing\, weather protection and stout footwear. Cogges Kitchen cafe will be open from 9.00am\, last orders at 4.00pm.  \n\n\n\nCosts \n\n\n\n6 places are available on this course. \n\n\n\nThe cost of the training is £110 per person\, including lunch.  Refunds are available only if we re-sell your place. \n\n\n\nMost attendees prefer to purchase an Austrian scythe in advance to set up and learn during the course. However\, Nicole has a limited number of training scythes that can be borrowed\, but this must be by prior arrangement\, and an additional hire cost of £20 will apply (contact Nicole in advance at https://joyofscything.uk/contact/). \n\n\n\nAttendees need only the basic Austrian scythe setup\, to include the following: \n\n\n\n\nSnath plus handles\n\n\n\nBlade (for grass and non-woody vegetation)\n\n\n\nScythe ring\n\n\n\nAllen key\n\n\n\n10mm spanner\n\n\n\nSharpening stone (canoe)\n\n\n\nStone sheath or suitable container to hold sharpening stone and water\n\n\n\nWork gloves to use whilst sharpening\n\n\n\n\nRecommended suppliers: Simon Fairlie – Supplier of Austrian Scythes \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTickets prices: \n\n\n\n£110.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSaturday 14 June 2025 at 10.00am \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n6 hours 30 minutes\, including a lunch break \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nOutside in the paddocks and meadow

SUMMARY:Marquee Square Heroes – Marillion Tribute
DESCRIPTION:Marquee Square Heroes – Marillion Tribute\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Marquee Square Heroes – Marillion Tribute\n\n\n\n‘Do you remember chalk hearts melting on a wall’ \n\n\n\nMarquee Square Heroes invites you to relive the shows that made Marillion one of the biggest bands in the world. \n\n\n\nBy the end of 1984 Marillion had completed their second album release and toured the UK\, Europe\, and North America to great acclaim with the ‘Fugazi’ album. \n\n\n\nDemand to see the band was huge and a multitude of pirated bootleg live albums were beginning to circulate amongst their fans. EMI decided to release a live ‘mini album’\, available at a reduced price. And thus\, was born ‘Real to Reel’\, a live album that really captures the essence and spirit of the band at that time. \n\n\n\nOn reflection\, this smart\, knee-jerk decision\, enabled the band to concentrate on writing the album that became the biggest-selling album of their career. \n\n\n\n‘Misplaced Childhood’ achieved Number 1 status in the album charts\, providing massive exposure with top 3 chart singles positions for ‘Kayleigh’ and ‘Lavender’\, and a healthy chart position for ‘Heart of Lothian’ too. \n\n\n\nKayleigh was only kept from the top of the charts by a worthy charity single but sold well over 200\,000 copies. You couldn’t turn the Radio on in 1985 and not hear that classic song of lost love and lost opportunities. And I seriously suspect everyone knows at least one Kayleigh! \n\n\n\nThis year Marquee Square Heroes will recreate the shows from this key period for Marillion\, performing not only a set that reflects that tour but also performing the entire classic Misplaced Childhood album\, as intended by the band in strict running order. As well as other classics\, not necessarily performed on that tour. \n\n\n\nA return to Banbury on the 40th anniversary of the album release will be a very special event – Marquee Square Heroes are delighted to celebrate the release of the album in The Mill Arts Centre. Featuring named musicians from the genre who have appeared across the world with members of Marillion. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£19.50 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSunday 31 August 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nDoors open at 7.00pm \n\n\n\nAge guidance:  \n\n\n\n14+ \n\n\n\nContent guidance: \n\n\n\nModerate Language \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Mill Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Mill Arts Centre is the cultural hub for Banbury and the surrounding area. \n\n\n\nAs the only dedicated arts provision in the area\, it aims to inspire creativity and enrich the lives of the communities by providing a high-quality\, varied artistic\, educational and participatory programme. \n\n\n\nIt plays a significant role in the town’s cultural\, social and economic development by offering the community the chance to engage with and be entertained by several art forms. \n\n\n\nThe Mill Arts Centre offers an exciting live events programme\, including theatre\, dance\, music\, comedy\, film\, workshops and classes.
