SUMMARY:Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
DESCRIPTION:Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?\n\n\n\nAn Oxford Playhouse Production \n\n\n\nBy Edward Albee \n\n\n\nDirected by Mike Tweddle \n\n\n\nOne evening. Two couples. No place to hide. \n\n\n\nWelcome to the small hours at George and Martha’s – the alcohol is flowing\, the gloves are off\, and the games are just getting started. \n\n\n\nEdward Albee’s multi-award-winning play Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is a wild\, gripping and darkly funny exploration of the lies we tell to protect ourselves. \n\n\n\nDisillusioned university professor George and his wife Martha invite an unwitting younger couple\, Nick and Honey\, into their home. It’s not long before things spiral\, dragging everyone into the heart of a tempestuous relationship. What starts as a spur-of-the-moment nightcap turns into a psychological showdown. \n\n\n\nEdward Albee’s masterpiece of raw intensity and searing insight is directed by Oxford Playhouse Artistic Director Mike Tweddle. Don’t miss one of the most explosive nights in modern theatre. \n\n\n\nThis landmark production signals an exciting new chapter for Oxford Playhouse under Mike Tweddle’s leadership\, reaffirming its position as a producer of high-quality drama. \n\n\n\nEdward Albee’s unforgettable characters George and Martha were immortalised on screen in the Oscar-winning 1966 film\, brought to searing life by Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. Their performances cemented the pair as cultural icons and shaped the way audiences have remembered Albee’s work ever since. \n\n\n\nThis production coincides with the sixtieth anniversary of the film\, as well as the Oxford Playhouse (OUDS) production of Doctor Faustus (1966) directed by Nevill Coghill\, which starred Richard Burton\, with Elizabeth Taylor as Helen of Troy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £15.00 \n\n\n\nA £2.75 booking fee per transaction applies to this event across all channels – website\, phone and in-person bookings at the Box Office.
