DESCRIPTION:Wolvercote Community Market\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Wolvercote Community Market\n\n\n\nEstablished in 2002\, Wolvercote Community Market is the longest running Farmers’ Market in Oxford\, and one of three in the North Oxford area. The market aims to provide the community with locally-produced great tasting food. \n\n\n\nThe Sunday market serves the community and visitors by providing fresh\, affordable and ethically sourced food as well as a place to meet\, eat and socialise with friends and neighbours. It also provides a free marketplace for local producers and crafts people. \n\n\n\nRegular stallholders bring fresh fruit and veg\, locally reared meat\, sustainably sourced fish\, artisan bread\, cheese and milk. Other traders produce fantastic cakes\, jams\, chutneys\, pasta\, chocolates and even plants and soaps. \n\n\n\nThe market has an amazing range of freshly made dishes from diverse food regions – Japanese\, Middle-Eastern\, Asian\, and the Mediterranean. There’s also a cafe that serves coffee\, tea\, cakes\, and a ‘Full Wolvercote’ breakfast. \n\n\n\nThe market is open every Sunday from 10.00am to noon at The White Hart Community Pub in Godstow Road\, Lower Wolvercote. \n\n\n\nThere is a Repair Café and bike clinic on the 2nd Sunday of each monthBring along your broken small electrical item\, and a trained volunteer will try to fix it for you and save it from the landfill. They also have volunteer mechanics to provide tune-ups and repairs\, and to offer advice to get your cycles rolling smoothly. \n\n\n\nIf you’re arriving by bicycle\, there are plenty of bike racks and a regular bike.

DESCRIPTION:Museum of Oxford Walks: Oxford’s Rebels and Radicals\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Museum of Oxford Walks: Oxford’s Rebels and Radicals\n\n\n\nOxford University is well known as a bastion of tradition and a training ground for future Prime Ministers\, but how much do you know about the city’s radical past and present? \n\n\n\nOn this two-hour circular walking tour\, you will hear about epic ‘town vs gown’ riots\, fiercely independent medieval women\, determined but doomed Levellers\, acid-sprinkling Suffragettes and the locals who kicked fascists out of the city for good. \n\n\n\nFrom Oscar Wilde\, through Oxfam\, to Rhodes Must Fall\, this tour tells the fascinating and inspiring stories of those who have pushed back against power\, privilege\, colonialism and discrimination throughout Oxford’s thousand-year history. \n\n\n\nThis tour aims to tell the forgotten stories of Oxford’s radicals\, and to spark respectful debate and discussion. Please come prepared to listen and engage. \n\n\n\nAs part of the tour\, you will see: Carfax Tower\, the site of an infamous riot; Gloucester Green\, where Oliver Cromwell crushed Britain’s first great egalitarian movement; All Souls College\, whose library was funded by a slave owner; University Church gardens where a bench is dedicated to one of Oxford’s most determined campaigners for women’s education – plus more locations from Oxford’s rebellious history.  \n\n\n\nPlease note that this tour does not include entry into any buildings and stops may be subject to change. \n\n\n\nJoin a tour of Oxford’s Rebels and Radicals to see Oxford through the eyes of an expert and unlock the secrets of its radical history. \n\n\n\nAccessibility and further information \n\n\n\nMeeting point: Museum of Oxford shop (located inside the Oxford Town Hall). It also provides an opportunity to meet some of your local farmers and growers. \n\n\n\nThe market is operated by Cherwell District Council. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGood to know\n\n\n\nThe farmer’s market is held on the same site as the Banbury Charter Market. \n\n\n\nThe Charter Market has been trading for several centuries since the town was established back in the 17th Century. Today it hosts approximately 30 stalls offering a range of products\, including fruit and vegetables\, clothing\, footwear\, tools\, cards and garden plants. \n\n\n\nThe Royal Charter Market\, also operated by Cherwell District Council\, runs on Thursdays and Saturdays. There’s also a cafe that serves coffee\, tea\, cakes\, and a ‘Full Wolvercote’ breakfast. \n\n\n\nThe market is open every Sunday from 10.00am to noon at The White Hart Community Pub in Godstow Road\, Lower Wolvercote. \n\n\n\nThere is a Repair Café and bike clinic on the 2nd Sunday of each monthBring along your broken small electrical item\, and a trained volunteer will try to fix it for you and save it from the landfill. Liz has lived in Oxford for forty years and has an MSc in English Local History from the University’s Department for Continuing Education. She is an experienced tour guide\, speaker\, tutor\, researcher\, and writer\, who enjoys helping people discover the perhaps less well-known history of Oxford and its citizens. \n\n\n\nAccess at the Museum \n\n\n\nThe Museum is accessible for wheelchair users\, buggies\, and baby carriers. There is step-free\, level entry access to the Town Hall via the entrance closest to Carfax (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). In 1979 Fairport decided to call it a day and\, having opened up for Led Zeppelin at Knebworth in the early afternoon\, tore across the country in their van to do an outdoor Farewell concert at Peewit Farm on Station Road in Cropredy. \n\n\n\nA year later\, they decided to reconvene with some friends for what would become their annual reunion. Although they had performed in Cropredy before\, 1980 is the year Fairport recognise as the first Cropredy Festival. The festival has continued (on various sites\, including Broughton Castle) up to the present day\, increasing in size from a couple of thousand to its current capacity of 20\,000. \n\n\n\nCropredy is a music festival – it could never be pigeon-holed as a folk festival. Along with the finest in folk and folk-rock – Lindisfarne\, Julie Fowlis\, Steeleye Span\, Ralph McTell\, Cara Dillon – the Cropredy audience has witnessed the likes of Alice Cooper\, Robert Plant\, Status Quo\, Steve Winwood and Buzzcocks. Basically\, whatever music Fairport like is what ends up on the bill. \n\n\n\nAnd\, bucking current trends\, the Cropredy Festival has always stuck to the one-stage idea. The advantage to the customer is that they won’t miss anyone. The advantage to the performer is that no matter how far down the bill they are\, they are guaranteed to be performing in front of at least 10k people. Beats being stuck in an ‘Unsigned’ tent in some remote corner of a forgotten field for sure. \n\n\n\nThe Cropredy ‘Fringe’ – entertainment provided by the two pubs in the village – act as satellite stages. Indeed\, many of the acts that have appeared at the festival have performed at The Brasenose Arms and The Red Lion on their way.

This is a lovely place to meet up and take a break from shopping. \n\n\n\nThe market is wheelchair accessible both inside and outside. \n\n\n\nThe East Oxford Farmers’ & Community Market is a non-profit making organisation (a Society for the Benefit of the Community). It is run by a committee and a group of volunteers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGetting there\n\n\n\nThe market takes place every Saturday from 10.00am to 1.00pm at East Oxford Primary School. Head down Cowley Road until you reach Tesco – the school borders on the car park directly behind it.

DESCRIPTION:Museum of Oxford Walks: Oxford’s Rebels and Radicals\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Museum of Oxford Walks: Oxford’s Rebels and Radicals\n\n\n\nOxford University is well known as a bastion of tradition and a training ground for future Prime Ministers\, but how much do you know about the city’s radical past and present? \n\n\n\nOn this two-hour circular walking tour\, you will hear about epic ‘town vs gown’ riots\, fiercely independent medieval women\, determined but doomed Levellers\, acid-sprinkling Suffragettes and the locals who kicked fascists out of the city for good. \n\n\n\nFrom Oscar Wilde\, through Oxfam\, to Rhodes Must Fall\, this tour tells the fascinating and inspiring stories of those who have pushed back against power\, privilege\, colonialism and discrimination throughout Oxford’s thousand-year history. \n\n\n\nThis tour aims to tell the forgotten stories of Oxford’s radicals\, and to spark respectful debate and discussion. Please come prepared to listen and engage. \n\n\n\nAs part of the tour\, you will see: Carfax Tower\, the site of an infamous riot; Gloucester Green\, where Oliver Cromwell crushed Britain’s first great egalitarian movement; All Souls College\, whose library was funded by a slave owner; University Church gardens where a bench is dedicated to one of Oxford’s most determined campaigners for women’s education – plus more locations from Oxford’s rebellious history.  \n\n\n\nPlease note that this tour does not include entry into any buildings and stops may be subject to change. \n\n\n\nJoin a tour of Oxford’s Rebels and Radicals to see Oxford through the eyes of an expert and unlock the secrets of its radical history. \n\n\n\nAccessibility and further information \n\n\n\nMeeting point: Museum of Oxford shop (located inside the Oxford Town Hall). The market aims to provide the community with locally-produced great tasting food. \n\n\n\nThe Sunday market serves the community and visitors by providing fresh\, affordable and ethically sourced food as well as a place to meet\, eat and socialise with friends and neighbours. It also provides a free marketplace for local producers and crafts people. \n\n\n\nRegular stallholders bring fresh fruit and veg\, locally reared meat\, sustainably sourced fish\, artisan bread\, cheese and milk. Other traders produce fantastic cakes\, jams\, chutneys\, pasta\, chocolates and even plants and soaps. \n\n\n\nThe market has an amazing range of freshly made dishes from diverse food regions – Japanese\, Middle-Eastern\, Asian\, and the Mediterranean. There’s also a cafe that serves coffee\, tea\, cakes\, and a ‘Full Wolvercote’ breakfast. \n\n\n\nThe market is open every Sunday from 10.00am to noon at The White Hart Community Pub in Godstow Road\, Lower Wolvercote. \n\n\n\nThere is a Repair Café and bike clinic on the 2nd Sunday of each monthBring along your broken small electrical item\, and a trained volunteer will try to fix it for you and save it from the landfill. They also have volunteer mechanics to provide tune-ups and repairs\, and to offer advice to get your cycles rolling smoothly. \n\n\n\nIf you’re arriving by bicycle\, there are plenty of bike racks and a regular bike.
