SUMMARY:Oxford Harmonic Choir: Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio
DESCRIPTION:Oxford Harmonic Choir: Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Harmonic Choir: Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio\n\n\n\nFinzi In Terra Pax | Bruch Greeting to the Holy Night \n\n\n\nChristmas will be celebrated this year with 4 lesser-known works from 3 very contrasting traditions. Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël (1858) is delicate and pastoral\, with impressively rich instrumental colours despite the small size of the orchestra used. \n\n\n\nGerald Finzi’s In terra pax (Peace on Earth\, 1954) is as wintry as it is quintessentially English\, but is filled with glimmers of light that shine through its general atmosphere of wistful nostalgia. \n\n\n\nMax Bruch’s Gruß an die heilige Nacht (Greeting to the Holy Night\, 1892) uses huge chords to create a subdued\, reverent atmosphere entirely appropriate to the significance of Christ’s Nativity. \n\n\n\nLastly\, the arrangement of several well-known carols\, Gustav Holst’s Christmas Day (1910)\, offers a seasonal dose of comforting familiarity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£15.00 – £30.00 \n\n\n\nA fee of £1.50 per transaction applies to bookings for this event across all channels – website\, phone and in-person bookings at the Box Office. The fee is waived for Oxford Playhouse members. \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSaturday 29 November 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nDoors open at 7.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour 30 minutes\, including an interval \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Sheldonian Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nHome to ceremonial occasions and a raft of exciting events\, the magnificent and versatile Sheldonian Theatre is the focal point of the University of Oxford and is a unique space to experience live music. \n\n\n\nTo see an interactive map of the theatre\, click here. \n\n\n\nFind out more about the Sheldonian Theatre\, including facilities\, access and venue information.

This enchanting journey is the ultimate festive treat for children\, offering a magical steam train ride from Princes Risborough to Santa’s Grotto at his North Pole station. Here\, little ones can share their Christmas wishes with Santa himself! \n\n\n\nOn select dates in November and December\, all trains will depart from Princes Risborough Platform 4 (SatNav HP27 9DN)\, where Santa’s stewards will warmly welcome everyone onboard. During the journey\, the Elves will entertain the children with puzzles and ‘Letters-to-Santa\,’ while the box-crazy ladies offer nimble craft projects for a modest additional cost. \n\n\n\nThe steam train will take you to Santa’s enhanced Workshop and Grotto at the North Pole station. Here\, you can enjoy refreshments\, chat with Santa\, take memorable photos\, and receive the first Christmas present for every child. On the return journey\, volunteers will ensure all children are delighted with their gifts. \n\n\n\nTravel in comfort in the 1950s carriages\, named after Santa’s reindeers – Rudolph\, Blitzen\, Dasher\, and Prancer. Seats are booked at tables to keep families together. Enjoy the traditional elements of the Santa experience: the steam train ride\, hot and cold beverages\, mince pies or biscuits\, and a magical visit with Santa. \n\n\n\nAdditional treats like sandwiches\, hot sausage rolls\, crisps\, snacks\, and mulled wine can be purchased at the Station Café\, and you might find some last-minute presents in the Station Shop. \n\n\n\nTake advantage of the early season special with £5.00 off per person on the first three days. Christmas comes but once a year\, so make it truly memorable.
