The first theatre was built in 1836\, and a second in 1886. In 1934\, the third New Theatre opened. \n\n\n\nThe theatre has been owned by several different companies and undergone several name changes. It is now owned by the Ambassador Theatre Group and hosts everything from ballet and opera to musicals. \n\n\n\nOn performance days\, the Box Office opens at noon and closes 15 minutes after the show starts. If there is a performance on a Sunday or Bank Holiday\, Box Office will open 2 hours before the show begins and close 15 minutes after the show starts. \n\n\n\nThere is a large air-conditioned bar with seating located below the Stalls Foyer\, two further bars in the Circle Foyer and an additional one at the back of the balcony. All stocked with an array of drinks and snacks. \n\n\n\nThere is a cloakroom located in the stalls bar. If this is closed\, please speak to a member of staff. £1 per item. DESCRIPTION:Summer Family Fun: Treasured\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Summer Family Fun: Treasured\n\n\n\nFamilies are invited to enjoy a summer of free activities at Blackwell Hall in Weston Library\, inspired by the Bodleian’s Treasured exhibition.  \n\n\n\nChildren can take part in trails\, storytime sessions\, crafts and keepsake printing\, with plenty to discover for all ages.  \n\n\n\nHighlights include doodling on a giant colouring roll\, exploring the Toddleian space for little ones\, and trying out hands-on activities such as matching book-making materials through history. \n\n\n\nSpecial pop-up events will also run on selected dates\, including a curator’s mini tour\, meet-and-greet sessions with guide dogs\, and a visit to the Bodleian Book Hospital where conservation experts share tips on caring for books. \n\n\n\nSessions take place on Thursday 31 July\, Friday 8 August\, Friday 15 August\, Friday 22 August and Thursday 28 August 2025\, between 11am and 3pm. DESCRIPTION:Pie in the Sky\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Pie in the Sky\n\n\n\nGet creative in this art workshop inspired by Oxford’s flying baker\, James Sadler. With balloon and flight-themed crafts\, channel your inner pilot and watch your creations fly. \n\n\n\nThese sessions are led by Dr Kate Castleden. \n\n\n\nThere are 3 sessions\, each session is 1 hour: 11.00am-12.00pm\, 1.00pm-2.00pm\, 2.30pm-3.30pm. \n\n\n\nPlease make sure to arrive on time. We allow a 10-minute grace period for late arrivals. After this point\, we cannot guarantee admission to the activity. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is suitable for ages 5-11. \n\n\n\nTickets cost £3.00 per child and can be purchased online via Eventbrite (booking fee applies) or at the Museum Shop. Each child ticket includes free entry for one accompanying adult. Adults pay the standard Arboretum entry fee. This is a lovely place to meet up and take a break from shopping. \n\n\n\nThe market is wheelchair accessible both inside and outside. \n\n\n\nThe East Oxford Farmers’ & Community Market is a non-profit making organisation (a Society for the Benefit of the Community). It is run by a committee and a group of volunteers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGetting there\n\n\n\nThe market takes place every Saturday from 10.00am to 1.00pm at East Oxford Primary School. We are going on adventures\, with bubbles\, magic carpets\, stormy seas\, and beautiful butterflies. All in a fun party atmosphere! \n\n\n\nSessions are led by Roly Carline. \n\n\n\nThere are two sessions. Each session is 60 minutes. 11.00am to 12.00pm and 2.00pm to 3.00pm. \n\n\n\nPlease make sure to arrive on time. We allow a 10-minute grace period for late arrivals. After this point\, we cannot guarantee admission to the activity. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is focused on children aged 5 and under and their carers. But brothers and sisters are welcome too! \n\n\n\nThis event will include loud music and flashing lights. A separate quiet space will be available for all families attending the session. Please contact the museum if you have specific questions about how we can make your visit more accessible. \n\n\n\nTickets cost £3.00 and can be purchased online via Eventbrite (booking fee applies) or at the Museum Shop. Children must be supervised at all times by a parent or carer. One child ticket includes free admission for one accompanying adult.
