SUMMARY:The Dung Beatles: 60th Anniversary of 'Help!' And 'Rubber Soul'
DESCRIPTION:The Dung Beatles: 60th Anniversary of ‘Help!’ And ‘Rubber Soul’\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Dung Beatles: 60th Anniversary of ‘Help!’ And ‘Rubber Soul’\n\n\n\nThe Dung Beatles are regarded as one of the best Beatles bands in the UK and indeed the world. Formed in Aylesbury in 2013 the band has created a big fanbase\, having played extensively in the UK and France. \n\n\n\nThe band played their first Friars gig at the Waterside in March 2018\, playing a set as part of the Earthly Messenger Bowie Statue unveiling concert. A year later in Friars Aylesbury’s 50th Anniversary year\, they headlined the Waterside playing the Abbey Road album in its entirety. \n\n\n\nIn 2022 Friars presented the band at two special sold-out Ukraine benefit concerts in St Mary’s Church\, Aylesbury which raised over £20\,000 for the DEC Ukraine appeal. The Dung Beatles have also played the Beatles spiritual home\, the iconic Cavern in Liverpool\, on two occasions. \n\n\n\nThe Dung Beatles: 60th Anniversary of ‘Help!’ And ‘Rubber Soul’\n\n\n\nThe band is Steve Hillier (guitars/vocals)\, Phil Toler (bass/harmonica/vocals)\, Danny Prendergast (guitars/vocals)\, Mike Ashton (drums/vocals) and Martin Kent (keyboards/vocals). Their joyous live performances\, which feature superb harmonies and attention to musical detail (without any use of backing tracks or programming)\, are the hallmarks of their success. \n\n\n\nThe Beatles Help! album was released in the UK on 6 August 1965 and their Rubber Soul album was released just 4 months later on 3 December 1965. Rubber Soul\, with hits such as In My Life\, Norwegian Wood\, Drive My Car\, Michelle\, and Nowhere Man is regarded by many Beatles fans to be their finest album. \n\n\n\nThe Help album with hits such as Ticket to Ride\, You’ve Got to Hide Yourself Away\, I’ve Just Seen a Face\, Yesterday\, and Help! was part of the soundtrack of the sixties not only in the UK but all around the world. It’s a testament to John\, Paul\, George\, and Ringo that they could write and record two such classic albums in just a few months. They were at the height of their creative powers which established them as the world’s most iconic band of the twentieth century. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTickets prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £18.70 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee of £3.95 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nFriday 03 October 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nMain auditorium \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Aylesbury Waterside Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAylesbury Waterside Theatre is a stunning modern venue at the heart of Buckinghamshire’s cultural scene. \n\n\n\nOpened in 2010\, its striking wooden interior takes inspiration from the rolling Chiltern Hills\, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. SUMMARY:Steven Pinker - The New Science of Harmony\, Hypocrisy\, and Outrage
DESCRIPTION:Steven Pinker – The New Science of Harmony\, Hypocrisy\, and Outrage\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Steven Pinker – The New Science of Harmony\, Hypocrisy\, and Outrage\n\n\n\nThe Harvard Professor and bestselling author of Enlightenment Now and The Better Angels of Our Nature joins us to reveal the power and perils of thinking alike. What do you know that everyone else knows? \n\n\n\nAs a cognitive scientist\, the ultimate subject of Steven Pinker’s fascination is how we think about each other’s thoughts\, ad infinitum. This awareness is called common knowledge – and it has a momentous impact on our social\, political\, and economic lives. \n\n\n\nCommon knowledge can make sense of financial bubbles and crashes\, revolutions that come out of nowhere\, the posturing and pretence of diplomacy\, the eruption of social media shaming mobs and academic cancel culture\, and the awkwardness of a first date. \n\n\n\nBut people also go to great lengths to avoid common knowledge―to ensure that even if everyone knows something\, they can’t know that everyone else knows they know it. And so we get rituals like benign hypocrisy\, veiled bribes and threats\, sexual innuendo\, and pretending not to see the elephant in the room. \n\n\n\nReturning to How To Academy to explore these paradoxes of human behaviour\, Harvard’s most renowned psychologist will invite us to understand the ways we try to get into each other’s heads – and the harmonies\, hypocrisies\, and outrages that result. \n\n\n\nEvery live ticket includes a copy of Steven’s new book\, ‘When Everyone Knows That Everyone Knows…’ (RRP £25.00). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £44.32 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee of £3.95 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 01 October 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour 50 minutes\, including an interval \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n14+ at the discretion of a parent or guardian. \n\n\n\nGood to know: \n\n\n\nAll tickets will include one copy of Steven Pinker’s new book “When Everyone Knows That Everyone Knows”. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nThere has been a theatre on George Street for almost 170 years. SUMMARY:Abingdon Drama Club - ROPE by Patrick Hamilton
DESCRIPTION:Abingdon Drama Club – ROPE by Patrick Hamilton\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Abingdon Drama Club – ROPE by Patrick Hamilton\n\n\n\nThis October\, Abingdon Drama Club (ADC) invites audiences to experience Rope\, Patrick Hamilton’s gripping psychological thriller\, in the evocative setting of the Unicorn Theatre. First staged in 1929 and later immortalised by Alfred Hitchcock\, Rope remains a masterclass in suspense\, guilt\, and the dark thrill of danger. \n\n\n\nSet in a 1920s Mayfair flat\, Rope follows Wyndham Brandon and Charles Granillo—two privileged young men who murder a fellow student for the intellectual thrill of it. Concealing the body in a chest\, they host a dinner party with the victim’s father among the guests\, using the chest as the supper table. As the evening unfolds\, tension rises. Will their secret remain hidden\, or will guilt—and a suspicious guest—unravel their perfect crime? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Abingdon Drama Club – ROPE by Patrick Hamilton Poster\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Abingdon Drama Club \n\n\n\nFounded in 1944\, Abingdon Drama Club is one of Oxfordshire’s longest-running amateur theatre groups. Based in the historic Unicorn Theatre\, the club stages a wide variety of productions each year—from classic plays and comedies to contemporary dramas and original works. \n\n\n\nADC is proud to be a creative hub for local talent\, welcoming actors\, directors\, designers\, and technicians of all experience levels. With a strong community spirit and a passion for storytelling\, ADC continues to bring high-quality theatre to the heart of Abingdon. \n\n\n\nA Director’s Vision \n\n\n\nDirector Lee Orchard brings a unique perspective to this production\, having first encountered Rope through a darkly comic homage in the TV series Psychoville\, rather than on stage. “I was instantly hooked by the script\,” they explain. “It’s dark\, twisted\, and full of suspense—everything I love in a play. The characters are rich\, the stakes are high\, and the setting is perfect for our beloved Unicorn Theatre.” \n\n\n\nDespite the challenges of staging a full 1920s flat on a compact stage—complete with a trunk large enough to hide a body—the director is confident: “A lot of thought has gone into the set. It’s tight\, but it works. And no\, we won’t be using a real body!” \n\n\n\nCast \n\n\n\n\nWyndham Brandon – John Hawkins\n\n\n\nCharles Granillo – Darren Fellerdale\n\n\n\nKenneth Raglan – David Fardon\n\n\n\nLeila Arden – Sara Phoenix\n\n\n\nSir Johnstone Kentley – Martin Egglestone\n\n\n\nMrs Debenham – Maria Crocker\n\n\n\nRupert Cadell – Kieran Madden\n\n\n\nSabot – Richard Wilson\n\n\n\n\nA Forgotten Classic Reimagined \n\n\n\nRope is widely regarded as a ‘forgotten classic’ of British theatre. Its enduring appeal lies in its chilling premise\, razor-sharp dialogue\, and psychological complexity. This production promises to be a thrilling night of theatre that will leave audiences questioning morality\, guilt\, and the thrill of danger. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFull price – £15.00 \n\n\n\nConcessions – £12.00    \n\n\n\nTickets are available at The Bookstore\, 15 Bury Street (The Precinct) \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 01 to Saturday 04 October 2025 \n\n\n\nWednesday\, Thursday\, and Friday at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nSaturday at 2:30pm and 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours 30 minutes \n\n\n\nGood to know: \n\n\n\n\nAll tickets are sold as unreserved seating.\n\n\n\nThere is a group discount for 10+ tickets.\n\n\n\nThe Unicorn Theatre has steps and awkward changes of level throughout. SUMMARY:Josh Berry: Best Man
DESCRIPTION:Josh Berry: Best Man\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Josh Berry: Best Man\n\n\n\nIt’s clear what toxic masculinity is\, but what does positive masculinity look like in a modern context? \n\n\n\nJosh Berry intends to provide some sort of answer to this question\, through his many impressions and characters\, as he tells the tale of being his best friend’s best man earlier this year. \n\n\n\nFrom routines on how to organise a ‘progressive stag do’\, to the amusing difficulties men seem to face around positive emotional expression\, the show is an opportunity for us to have a ruddy good laugh at a concept that could do with being taken a bit less seriously. There’s also a routine about how much Josh hates runners and refuses to become one. \n\n\n\nN.B. Josh has since entered a half marathon. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£19.50 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nFriday 26 September 2025 at 8.00pm \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n18+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The North Wall Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe North Wall Arts Centre is an an award-winning theatre\, gallery and performing arts centre located in Summertown\, North Oxford. SUMMARY:LEVEL 42 - World Machine 40th Anniversary Tour
DESCRIPTION:LEVEL 42 – World Machine 40th Anniversary Tour\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout LEVEL 42 – World Machine 40th Anniversary Tour\n\n\n\nLevel 42 is delighted to announce that they will embark upon The ‘World Machine’ 40th Anniversary Tour in 2025. \n\n\n\n‘World Machine’ was the album that changed everything for Level 42\, and set them on the path to true super-stardom. Released in 1985\, it was a hit both here and in the States\, and has now been certified double Platinum. \n\n\n\nIt was on this album\, the band’s sixth\, that arguably they nailed down the sound and the style that made them one of the biggest groups in the world. On this album\, they refined the funky pop fusion that had grown from their jazz roots – and had already brought them serious success – and truly made it their own. \n\n\n\n‘World Machine’ features the singles Something About You (the band’s only American top 10 hit) and Leaving Me Now\, and it showed the band’s progression in style and confidence that would lead to their massive Running In The Family album the following year. \n\n\n\nLEVEL 42 – World Machine 40th Anniversary Tour\n\n\n\nMark King said\, “I am so excited to be able to announce The ‘World Machine’ 40th Anniversary Tour for 2025. As our amazing fans will know\, World Machine marked a turning point in the band’s career\, not least in the international success the album gave us. So\, I am looking forward to seeing you all out there next Autumn when we can romp through all those songs again together. Love to all\, Mark X”. \n\n\n\nFour decades after the release of ‘World Machine’\, Level 42 is still in demand worldwide. This UK tour celebrates a great album but is also an opportunity to witness one of the most popular and enduring British bands doing what they do best. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket Prices:From £41.83 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee of £3.95. \n\n\n\nDate:Friday 26 September 2025 \n\n\n\nTime:Doors open at 7.00pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nThere has been a theatre on George Street for almost 170 years.
