The events will showcase a range of innovative local historical projects run by\, or in partnership with\, community historians. \n\n\n\nParticipants will learn about the latest new research being conducted on Oxfordshire’s diverse histories\, as well as gaining new skills that could help shape personal project ideas. \n\n\n\nOn 07 November\, participants will hear about the migration and community histories of local Black and Muslim residents of Oxfordshire\, from two project teams recently funded by the Community History Hub. \n\n\n\n\nThe ‘Place for We’ team has been exploring the ways in which African-Caribbean migrants to Oxford have worked\, played\, protested and built lives in the city\, from the mid-twentieth century to today. Hear from Euton Daley (Unlock the Chains Collective) and Junie James (ACKHI): two of Oxford’s foremost Black History researchers\, who have years of experience between them in building community archives and sharing their histories via plays\, exhibitions\, publications\, and Oxford’s legendary ‘Cowley Road Carnival’.\n\n\n\nThe ‘Muslim History of Oxford’ team has been collecting stories to build a new oral history archive of Muslim community experiences living in Oxfordshire. Sadiya Ahmed (Director of Everyday Muslim) and Dr Aleena Din (postdoctoral researcher at Manchester University) will be discussing the process of building this new archive and will showcase what it tells us about the diverse lived experiences of Muslims who have come to Oxford from all over the world.\n\n\n\n\nThe event is free and everyone is welcome\, but please note that the number of spaces available is limited\, so do book in advance. The event attracts thousands of people from the Wallingford district on the Saturday before or after 05 November. \n\n\n\nThe event starts Saturday 02 November at 6.00pm with a medieval torchlit procession of Guys walking through the crowd\, beating drums\, to light the spectacular bonfire at about 6.30pm\, with added pyrotechnic effects! At around 7.00pm there will be a lower-noise children’s display\, and then the incredible\, award-winning\, main fireworks spectacle! The event will finish around 8.00pm. \n\n\n\nAll timings are approximate\, subject to the weather and safety considerations. \n\n\n\nYou don’t need a ticket\, but Wallingford 1155 asks for a suggested donation of £6.00 for adults and £3.00 for children. All proceeds are donated directly to local charities. You can buy food from the excellent local traders\, drinks at the bar\, and sparklers at the event shop. \n\n\n\nThe fireworks are brought to you by the 2015 and 2017 National Firework Champions – Wallingford’s very own Illusion Fireworks Ltd\, award-winning display designer Karl Mitchell-Shead and his team of pyrotechnicians have designed a spectacular pyromusical firework display. \n\n\n\nThe fireworks are choreographed to the music and fired using their state-of-the-art digital firing system with split second accuracy. Using fireworks from around the world\, Wallingford Fireworks is a display like no other. \n\n\n\nThe Loose Cannon Brewery will be providing the event with Ale and Pilsner lager.
