SUMMARY:Machinal by Sophie Treadwell
DESCRIPTION:Machinal by Sophie Treadwell\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Machinal by Sophie Treadwell\n\n\n\n‘How can that be? A great sin – a mortal sin – for which I must die and go to hell – but it made me free! One moment I was free!’ \n\n\n\nThe city. A woman is restless. Women are suffocating. Women are silenced. A woman revolts. \n\n\n\nMachinal is a pulse-pounding journey of women pushed to breaking point by the relentless machinery of patriarchy\, life\, expectation\, and convention. Sophie Treadwell’s play written in 1928\, updated to 2025\, in Mandala Young Company’s version\, is as relevant today as it was then. It is a gripping exploration of societal norms\, female identity\, and the consequences of rebellion. \n\n\n\nInspired by the real-life case of convicted and executed murderer Ruth Snyder\, the play delves into the life of a young woman caught in the machinery of a rigid and oppressive society. \n\n\n\nThe play is written in eight episodes depicting ‘the different phases of life that a woman comes in contact with\, and in none of which she finds any place\, any peace’. Each episode titles the location of the social institution or the type of behaviour still expected of women in the 21st century. \n\n\n\nThis is not just a play – it’s a warning\, a mirror\, and a rallying cry. Machinal confronts the quiet suffocation of expectation and the loud silence of being unheard. In a world still grappling with gender roles and systemic control\, this story—told through a bold\, modern lens—asks the question: What happens when a woman has no room left to breathe? \n\n\n\nCome for the powerful storytelling. Stay for the uncomfortable truths. Leave changed. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat the critics say\n\n\n\n\n“Poignant and beautiful writing! Loved the message.” \n\n\n\nSOAS Student \n\n\n\n\n\n“Such a brilliant performance. Such emotion was conveyed.” \n\n\n\nSOAS Student \n\n\n\n\n\n“The performers were genuinely believable characters. SUMMARY:Meditate and Create: Happy Post
DESCRIPTION:Meditate and Create: Happy Post\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Meditate and Create: Happy Post\n\n\n\nCreate a card or two to send to your loved ones – just because! \n\n\n\nJoin local artist Eden for a 2-hour session for adults\, all about slowing down and taking care of yourself. \n\n\n\nThe session starts with a mindfulness meditation for 10-15 minutes. This is always optional\, and you can choose to just sit and listen if you’d prefer. \n\n\n\nWe will then explore a simple\, mindful\, creative activity together\, where the focus is on the doing\, rather than putting pressure on an outcome. \n\n\n\nMonthly on Tuesdays 7.00pm – 9.00pm \n\n\n\nFor your safety \n\n\n\nThis session includes an optional mindfulness meditation to help you relax. You can always choose to just listen rather than take part. \n\n\n\nIt will last around 10-15 minutes. Whilst mindfulness meditation is generally a very safe practice\, there are some contraindications: \n\n\n\n\nAs we may be focusing on the breath\, if you have asthma or a serious breathing difficulty\, please have a fully charged inhaler with you.\n\n\n\nAs relaxation can trigger epileptic seizures\, if you have epilepsy that is not controlled by medication\, please seek your doctor’s permission before joining.\n\n\n\n\nWhen booking your place\, you agree to the above terms and conditions and agree that you have read and fully understand the terms and conditions around health care. Ultimately\, the responsibility to take the best care of yourself lies with you. \n\n\n\nA bit about Eden \n\n\n\nEden is an artist facilitator and works across Oxfordshire with groups of all ages. Her art sessions are all about taking time out for ourselves and looking after our wellbeing\, rather than putting too much pressure on the final product. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£10.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nTuesday 17 June 2025 at 7.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nThe Hanney \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Beacon\, Wantage\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Beacon is a community centre in Wantage offering live events\, cinema screenings\, room hire\, coffee shop\, children’s parties\, class timetable\, receptions and more. \n\n\n\nAs a vibrant gathering place for the local community\, it offers a varied programme of events from film screenings\, live music\, theatre and stand-up comedy to a range of classes and workshops. \n\n\n\nAt The Beacon\, there is also a regular programme of events for the local community to participate in and enjoy\, including stand-up comedy\, live music\, theatre productions\, guest speakers\, film screenings and pantomime. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about The Beacon\, including travel\, access and venue information.

SUMMARY:Abingdon Air and Country Show 2025
DESCRIPTION:Abingdon Air and Country Show\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Abingdon Air and Country Show 2025\n\n\n\nThe Abingdon Air and Country Show 2025 will take place at Abingdon Airfield / Dalton Barracks on Saturday\, 14 June 2025. From dynamic flying displays to arts and crafts stalls\, the show will have something for everybody. \n\n\n\nThere’ll be aerobatic displays from warbirds and biplanes to modern-day jets. And plenty to see on the ground\, too – from static aircraft displays and cockpits to sit inside to a great mix of stalls\, classic vehicle displays\, and country fayre traditions and craftsmanship. \n\n\n\nThe Abingdon Air and Country Show began in 2000 as a local fete organised by Neil Porter\, a landscape gardener by trade. It was created with the desire to put something back into the community and provide a family day out at an affordable price. \n\n\n\nThe event barely broke even\, but through perseverance\, the show has grown steadily into one of the sizeable annual events in the area and a highlight on the airshow calendar. \n\n\n\nUnlike many UK airshows\, everyone involved in the show’s organisation is a volunteer. And over the past 20+ years\, they’ve been able to donate generously to the Thames Valley Air Ambulance\, Douglas House Respite Centre\, and many other local charities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat’s on\n\n\n\nFlying & Static displays: The Titans Display Team\, Hurricane I\, Gazelle Squadron\, Westland Scout AH.1\, Rich Goodwin\, Auster AOP.6\, P-51 (CAC CA-18 Mk.21)\, Jet Provost T.5\, RAF Falcons\, RAF BBMF\, Harvard\, RAF C-17 TBC\, RAF Tutor T.1\, SARO Skeeter\, T-6G Texan and Boeing B-17. \n\n\n\nOn the ground\, there will also be the Steam Engines\, Rescue Huskies\, Craft Tent\, Punch and Judy\, Radio Day Big Band\, Hebborns Amusements\, displays of classic and ex-military vehicles\, various trade and craft stalls. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nAdvance Tickets (1st February 2025 to 23:59hrs 13th June 2025 only)Adult (16 years & over) – £20.00Senior citizens (65+) – £10.00Children 5 to 15 years – £7.00Under 5s – free \n\n\n\nOn the day Tickets (can be purchased online or cash only at the gates)Adult (16 years & over) – £25.00Senior citizens (65+) – £15.00Children 5 to 15 years – £8.00Under 5s – free \n\n\n\nNo credit card machines are onsite on the day. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGetting there\n\n\n\nThe easiest way to reach the Abingdon Air & Country Show is by car – please follow the map and postcode directions as instructed on your ticket to the correct gates. \n\n\n\nDriving to the event: Your e-ticket will provide you with a map and postcode to find your way and with entry times. \n\n\n\nPedestrian (Walkers & Cyclists) Gate: For local people who would rather walk to this side gate\, located on Faringdon Road\, with Elm Tree Walk to your left prior to reaching the gates to enter the airfield.
