About Downton Gazette

Created in 2022, Downton Gazette is a cultural blog/website about whatever can be referred to as Downton Abbey World.

Born as an online journal (and a member of Friends of Highclere Castle and The Shaw Society), it aims to promote the moral virtues of Downton Abbey Galaxy. In effect today more than ever, our poor and disgraced world needs effective and concrete examples to become a better and kinder place to live.

Downton Gazette is fond of Art, Music and Theatre, and it follows with enormous and passionate interest the majestic and awesome cultural activities of the IRISH WORLD, in particular the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, Conor McPherson’s poignant Plays, the enchanting music by Maria Doyle Kennedy and Kieran (just dedicated them the poignant book SHINING OCEAN available on Amazon). Moroever, this blog adores Scottish Culture and heroes, above all, Sir Matt Busby.

Downton Gazette supports FONTANA SHELTER ART. Fontana Shelter (a member of West Ox Arts Gallery in Bampton, Faringdon Art Society in Faringdon and Oxfordshire Artweeks) carries on with the artistic activity of the Italian pointer Luigi Fontana and is obviously supported by Downton Gazette.

Born in Piacenza, Luigi Fontana was the son of a decorator and nephew of a paintress who gave him an artistic education. At first, Luigi was a portraitist, and his work was marked by great vitality and rich tempera colours, taste and elegance. Afterwards, he gave himself entirely over to the landscape. To Fontana, landscape and, indeed, the whole of nature was a keen microcosm of man’s soul.

He was particularly impressed by some majestic monuments of cities he visited, painted several times (pyrography on wood). Fontana Shelter was recently created in his loving memory to publish and promote his collections of prints and photographs. lt is proudly supported by the Downton Gazette website, with which it shares the brave motto “You can change your life if you want to.” — Mr Bates to Gwen in series 1 of Downton Abbey.
