About The Visit
An Oxford Playhouse Adult Company production
By Friedrich Dürrenmatt. Translated by Maurice Valency
Directed by Emma Webb
In the struggling town of Güllen, hope arrives. Claire, once dismissed, now returns; impossibly wealthy and, promising prosperity — hospitals restored, schools revived, lives rebuilt. But her generosity carries a chilling condition.
With vengeance in her heart, she delivers the ultimatum forcing the town to confront its past. As temptation tightens its grip, morality wavers. Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s The Visit is a searing tale of politics, past loves and revenge. Salvation has never seemed so sinister.
Performed by The Playhouse Adult Company, the multi-generational ensemble for those aged 26 and over, this performance transforms the Main Stage into an intimate studio space placing the audience at the heart of the action.
This amateur production of The Visit is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk
