Editorial approach
The Oxford Magazine is an independent digital magazine covering Oxford and just beyond. Our editorial approach is guided by a simple principle: publish stories that are interesting, useful or significant to the people who live, work or play here.
We aim to help readers understand what’s happening in Oxford, discover its people and places, and find experiences worth their time. Our coverage spans local news, culture, food, shopping, events and things to do, alongside distinctive destinations beyond the city.
What we cover
Oxford is at the heart of the magazine. Beyond the city, we take a selective approach, featuring recognised destinations, exceptional experiences and interesting people that offer something distinctive. Our aim is to help readers discover Oxford and just beyond, not to provide exhaustive coverage of every town and village in the county.
Independent editorial and commercial content
The Oxford Magazine is free to read and independently published. Advertising, partnerships and sponsored content help support our work, but commercial activity and independent editorial coverage serve different purposes.
Paid promotional content is identified appropriately. Commercial relationships do not guarantee independent editorial coverage, and editorial decisions are guided by the relevance and value of a story to our readers.
Accuracy and accountability
We aim to report information accurately, fairly and in context. We take care with facts, quotations and claims, and seek clarification where necessary. If we get something wrong, we welcome being told and will assess corrections promptly.
We take complaints about our editorial content seriously and provide a process for raising concerns. Our approach is informed by established standards of responsible journalism, including the principles of the Editors’ Code of Practice.
Working with contributors
The magazine works with writers, photographers and other creative professionals to bring Oxford and its surroundings to life. Contributions are selected for their quality, relevance and fit with our editorial scope. Working with us does not guarantee publication, and commissioned work is subject to an agreed brief.
We welcome story suggestions and information from readers, organisations and local businesses. We cannot promise coverage in response to a submission, but we consider ideas on their merits and their value to our audience.
Our guiding principle
We want The Oxford Magazine to be a trusted, engaging source of discovery for people who live, work or play in Oxford and across Oxfordshire — bringing attention to the stories, people and places that matter, and helping readers discover Oxford and just beyond.
We prioritise stories with genuine public interest, local relevance or cultural value. We look for original angles, meaningful developments and people or places that deserve attention, rather than publishing every announcement or promotional opportunity that comes our way.
