About Georgettes of Oxford Dance Display and Picnic

Join the Georgettes of Oxford on the first May Bank Holiday for their first picnic and outdoor dance display of the year at Cogges Manor Farm.

Cogges was originally a Medieval Manor House and extended throughout the intervening centuries, and is now a working heritage farm and visitor attraction.

Before the dance display, the Georgettes will be picnicking, meeting from 12.30pm onwards. Demonstrating dances at 2.00pm, concluding with simple dances for visitors to join in with.

Regency and Georgian day wear is welcomed, as are non-costumers. To blend in, those not in costume may wish to wear a long skirt (ladies) or a white shirt and pale trousers (gentlemen). Please take a picnic rug. The Cogges Kitchen café will serve food, snacks, cakes and hot and cold drinks.

Georgettes of Oxford was formed by Dr Helen Davidge in 2023. The not-for-profit group holds and attends dances, events and activities enjoyed by people from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Helen discovered the Regency period when watching the classic BBC Pride and Prejudice in 1995, and her interest in the Georgian period was kindled in her teens when she was introduced to the works of Georgette Heyer. Helen enjoys researching history in several ways, including through literature, particularly 18th-century female authors, hand sewing, renovating an 18th-century cottage, reenactment and dance.
