Vaughan Williams – Roots & Branches
08 February 2025 @ 4.00pm to 6.00pm

About Vaughan Williams – Roots & Branches
An exciting ‘cross-over’ show that explores the linkages between Vaughan Williams’ collected folk songs and his own compositions.
The show features 4-piece folk band Moonrakers and string quartet OXUS and comprises an evocative mix of songs and tunes from the folk and classical traditions.
In 2022, the Vaughan Williams Festival invited Moonrakers to develop a programme that features eight musicians on stage with folk songs interwoven with some of the composer’s well-known works.
OXUS perform the fourth movement of Quartet No.1 in G minor, the Phantasy Quintet and excerpts from Dives and Lazarus.
Moonrakers perform new arrangements of songs such as “The Leaves They Do Grow High”, “The Turtle Dove”, “Two Sisters”, and “The Unquiet Grave”.
The show also includes some new music written by Moonrakers members Jon Bennett and Jacqui Johnson.
