About Sharing Event: The Remarkable Dance Company and 201 Dance Company

Experience the power of collaboration through dance as the Remarkable Dance Company and the acclaimed 201 Dance Company join forces for an exclusive research and development sharing of The Last Day, a bold new work by 201 Dance Company.

At this special afternoon sharing, audiences are invited behind the scenes to witness the early stages of The Last Day and work with dancers of all ages and experience. Through a dynamic blend of movement, autobiographical narrative, conversation, and experimentation, both companies will share newly devised material, insights, and creative processes, offering a rare glimpse into how groundbreaking dance theatre is made.

201 Dance Company is renowned for its emotionally charged, socially responsive productions that tackle pressing issues with honesty and originality, led by Artistic Director Andrea Walker. From 2021-2023, Andrea spent a prolonged period back in his birth country of Italy, caring for his mother, whose health had been deteriorating slowly after a long battle with cancer.

With a limited amount of time, certainty, and physical ability, the relationship of mother and son, and what it means to live for both of them, is brought to the forefront: raising powerful questions about autonomy, identity, and the forces that shape us.

The Remarkable Dance Company (affectionately known as the Remarkables) are The Mill’s dance company for over-50s drawn from Banbury and surrounding areas. Formed in 2017 with support from Arts Council England (ACE), the company have had the experience of working with professional choreographers and dance companies including Uchenna Dance, Yorke Dance and Chhaya Collective to develop their practice and create one-off curtain-raiser performances.

Since 2023, led by the company’s Artistic Director Luca Braccia, the company have created their first full-scale piece Let’s Play Forever and showcased their work at festivals including Host in Ipswich and Dancin’ Oxford’s Summer Festival.
