Tourists enjoying Oxford’s open-top bus tours this week will be helping to fund a life-changing medical project in Angola, by enjoying one of City Sightseeing Oxford’s tours.

On Friday 04 October, City Sightseeing Oxford will donate £1.00 from every hop-on hop-off ticket sold to its latest Changing Lives initiative, which aims to build Cacuaco’s first medical centre.

The project, coordinated by City Sightseeing Cares, will address urgent needs for maternal care and basic health services in the Angolan city, where access to healthcare is extremely limited.

The initiative comes in response to findings by the World Bank Group, which reported that 31.1 per cent of Angola’s population live below the international poverty line of £1.61 per day. By the end of 2026, City Sightseeing hopes to raise £52,000 across its global network of operators to deliver the new centre.

Luke Marion, Managing Director of City Sightseeing Oxford, said:

“We’re proud to support each Changing Lives initiative delivered by our colleagues at City Sightseeing Cares. Our work in Cacuaco will have an immeasurably positive impact on the community and transform healthcare provisions locally to help address concerning levels of poverty in the region.

“Each person who experiences one of our tours this Friday will help make a difference to achieving our fundraising goal by contributing to this critical project which will change lives.”

City Sightseeing Cares, launched in 2023, serves as the social responsibility arm of the organisation, coordinating global efforts to improve communities through fundraising, services, and direct support. In 2024, the team successfully delivered clean water to more than 2,000 people across 12 communities in the Upper Amazon region of Peru.

Marion added:

“Our commitment goes beyond delivering the best experience to the hundreds of thousands of people who visit Oxford each year. By collaborating with worldwide operators, we have the power to prompt positive change in communities which require our support most.”
