Bampton Classical Opera presents its much-loved annual St Beornwald’s-tide concert, offering a magnificent evening of seasonal Baroque music on Wednesday 17 December 2025, 7.00pm at St Mary’s Church, Bampton.
Featuring Bampton Classical Voices and the period-instrument Bampton Classical Players under conductor Andrew Griffiths, the programme promises a rich celebration of festive works.

At the heart of the concert is Charpentier’s Messe de minuit pour Noël, a jubilant mass for five voices, recorders, strings, and continuo, woven from traditional French noëls.
Alongside it, audiences will enjoy Purcell’s Behold, I Bring You Glad Tidings—his only anthem written specifically for Christmas—and Buxtehude’s radiant Das neugeborne Kinderlein. Additional works by Weckmann, Rosenmüller, Caresana, and Manfredini add colour to the evening.

The first half of the concert offers a joyful tableau of angels, dancing shepherds, and pastoral nativity scenes, creating a warm and atmospheric opening. With mulled wine served before the performance and during the interval, audiences can expect a festive and restorative experience.
The event promises to be an unmissable highlight of the season. Tickets are priced at £20 (£10 for under 18s) and are available online, by phone, or on the door.
