People eligible for free winter flu and COVID vaccinations in Oxfordshire are being encouraged to arrange their jabs as soon as possible, with the seasonal programme now under way.
Flu vaccinations are now available to pregnant women, children aged two and three, school-aged children from reception to year 11, and children aged six months and over with a long-term health condition that puts them at greater risk from flu.
From Thursday 01 October, free flu vaccinations will also be available to people aged 65 and over, those under 65 in a clinical risk group, people living in care homes, carers, frontline health and social care workers, and people experiencing homelessness.
Free COVID-19 vaccinations are also available to residents in care homes for older people, adults aged 75 and over, and people aged six months and over who are immunosuppressed.
An RSV vaccination is available to pregnant women, people aged 75 and over, adults of any age living in a care home for older adults, and people aged 65 to 74 with a weakened immune system or a long-term lung condition, excluding well-controlled asthma.
Where possible, flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccinations will be given during the same appointment.
Ansaf Azhar, Oxfordshire County Council’s director for public health, said flu, COVID-19 and RSV could pose serious risks, particularly to people with certain health conditions.
“Getting the vaccine not only gives you extra protection but also protects your loved ones and those you work with,” he said.
Mr Azhar also encouraged eligible residents not to delay booking their vaccination, noting that immunity decreases over time and viruses change from year to year.
People with a fever or who feel unwell with a respiratory infection are advised to stay at home and limit contact with others.
Further information about eligibility and how to book a vaccination is available from the NHS winter vaccinations service.
