Back by popular demand, the Helen & Douglas House Charity Comedy Gala returns in 2026!

A sell-out success in 2025, Helen & Douglas House is back with another star-studded evening of comedy, hosted by Matt Richardson and friends. This one-night-only event brings together a stellar lineup of the country’s finest comedians, all performing for a fantastic cause.

With proceeds going to support local children with life-limiting illnesses, you can enjoy an unforgettably hilarious evening while making a difference in your community.

Meet your host, Matt Richardson

Having started stand-up at just 18 years old, Matt is now a fixture at all the major comedy clubs in the UK and has performed overseas on countless occasions.

Matt is a seasoned TV and radio host and has presented shows such as The Extra Factor (ITV2), The Hangover Games (E4) and Virgin Radio’s Drive Time Show.

His other TV appearances include Never Mind the Buzzcocks (BBC Two), Roast Battle (Comedy Central), Celebrity Juice (ITV) and pretty much any spin-off show you can name!

Laura Smyth – Laura won the 2019 Funny Women Awards, having only been doing comedy for 5 months. Since then, she has continued to take the comedy scene by storm, supporting Jack Whitehall and Michelle de Swarte on tour and playing the Comedy Arena at Latitude, Reading and Leeds Festivals.

TV appearances include Live At The ApolloFrankie Boyle’s New World OrderJonathan Ross’ Comedy Club and Cats Does Countdown.

Zoe Lyons – Zoe is an award-winning stand-up and actor. She’s an immediately recognisable voice on Radio 4 and has made memorable appearances on TV’s biggest shows, including

Live at the ApolloHave I Got News for You, QI, Mock the Week, Celebrity SAS Who Dares Wins 2023 and many more.

Zoe is a regular at the Edinburgh Festival, and her shows Entry Level Human, Mustard Cutter and Little Miss Misfit have toured the UK and been praised by critics and audiences alike.

Ed Byrne – During his twenty years in comedy, Ed has enjoyed great critical and popular success in the UK and Ireland and developed a huge following overseas.

He has performed hit tours, sold out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, and become a stalwart fixture on TV and radio. Ed’s appearances include BBC Radio’s The Unbelievable Truth and What’s So Funny, and he’s been a regular panellist on Mock the Week and Have I Got News for You, as well as being a memorable guest on the Graham Norton Show.

Fin Taylor – Host of the hugely successful online sensation Fin Vs The Internet and the podcast Fin Vs History, Fin has become one of the UK’s most popular cult comedians. As seen on Live At The Apollo, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Have I Got News For You, The Mash Report, and Comedy Central’s Roast Battle.

“Smart, explosively funny, his reputation for fearlessness has propelled him into UK comedy’s big league.” The Guardian

Andrew Bird – Andrew hails from Northamptonshire and moved to London to pursue a career in stand-up. He worked at a bar making the regulars laugh before his career in live comedy took off.

Since then, Andrew has become a top headline act up and down the UK and has been entertaining audiences around the world, from Dublin to Doha. He has supported Rhod Gilbert, Rob Brydon, and Michael McIntyre’s arena tour, performing at Wembley and the O2.

About New Theatre Oxford

There has been a theatre on George Street for almost 170 years. The first theatre was built in 1836, and a second in 1886. In 1934, the third New Theatre opened.

The theatre has been owned by several different companies and undergone several name changes. It is now owned by the Ambassador Theatre Group and hosts everything from ballet and opera to musicals.

On performance days, the Box Office opens at noon and closes 15 minutes after the show starts. If there is a performance on a Sunday or Bank Holiday, Box Office will open 2 hours before the show begins and close 15 minutes after the show starts.

There is a large air-conditioned bar with seating located below the Stalls Foyer, two further bars in the Circle Foyer and an additional one at the back of the balcony. All stocked with an array of drinks and snacks.

There is a cloakroom located in the stalls bar. If this is closed, please speak to a member of staff. £1 per item. It is free to ATG Theatre Card members.
