About Royal Ballet and Opera: Swan Lake

Prince Siegfried chances upon a flock of swans in the swan lake while out hunting. When one of the swans turns into a beautiful woman, Odette, he is enraptured. But she is under a spell that holds her captive, allowing her to regain her human form only at night.

Von Rothbart, arbiter of Odette’s curse, tricks the Prince into declaring his love for the identical Odile and thus breaking his vow to Odette. Doomed to remain a swan forever, Odette has but one way to break the sorcerer’s spell.

The theatre has has 217 seats, including stalls and a balcony. It is a resource for the community, and it is also a professional venue, welcoming over 55,000 customer visits every year.

It is something unique, but it is also different things to different people. It is the cause and subject of many arguments and debates; and a fair amount of acclaim and affection. It is complicated and a little eccentric.

It is not a little theatre. It likes to make a big noise.
