Frilford Heath Golf Club in Oxfordshire has been selected to host The R&A Women’s and Men’s Senior Amateur Championships in 2026, further strengthening its reputation as one of the UK’s leading venues for tournament golf.

The event, which follows Frilford Heath’s successful staging of Open Qualifying in 2025, will be played on the club’s acclaimed Red Course. Organised by The R&A, the championships bring together elite amateur golfers – men aged 55 and over, and women aged 50 and over. Previous host venues have included Saunton, Woodhall Spa, Royal Dornoch and Ganton.

“We’re honoured to be selected once again by The R&A as a host venue,” said Russell Stebbings, Managing Director of Frilford Heath Golf Club. “The club has a rich heritage of hosting important amateur and professional tournaments, from an historic Ryder Cup trial to this year’s Open Qualifying. With continued investment in our infrastructure and playing surfaces, we look forward to showcasing Frilford at its very best in 2026.”

The announcement comes as the club continues significant investment in its courses and facilities. Recent enhancements include a state-of-the-art TORO irrigation system on the Red Course, offering app-controlled water management that supports the club’s sustainability goals.

Both the Red and Blue Courses now benefit from advanced irrigation, while drainage improvements on the Blue Course are further improving year-round playability.

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, Executive Director – Championships at The R&A, said:
“It is a priority for The R&A to reinforce the status of our amateur championships, international matches and Student Tour Series as leading events in elite amateur golf.

“We aim to attract the best players from around the world and staging these competitions at some of the game’s most prestigious venues in 2026 underlines their importance.”

Founded in 1908, Frilford Heath is home to three championship heathland courses – Red, Blue and Green – set within 450 acres of SSSI-designated countryside. Designed by JH Taylor, the Red Course has long been ranked among England’s top 100 courses, offering a true challenge for golfers of all levels.

Alongside its championship layouts, Frilford Heath has also invested in clubhouse upgrades and facilities to ensure a premium experience for members, visitors and tournament competitors alike.
