Oxford has been named as the top UK city for economic success and well-being of the community, beating 41 other cities in the 2018 Good Growth for Cities index put together by Pricewaterhouse Coopers and the Demos think tank.
The report measured the performance of UK cities against a range of indicators, including employment, health, income, skills, housing affordability, owner occupation, transport, environmental factors, income inequality, and new business start-ups.
Oxford ranked highly due to its wide range of jobs, good access to health care, the number of new businesses and the high levels of income, but lagged behind on work-life balance, house prices versus earnings, and transport infrastructure.
The city narrowly beat close neighbour Reading to the top spot.
