A contractor has been appointed to deliver Oxford’s new 17-acre Burial Meadow, with work expected to begin this autumn and be completed in spring 2027.

Blakedown Landscapes has been appointed as principal contractor following planning approval in April. The site off Oxford Road will provide much-needed burial space for the city, with capacity expected to last around 45 years.

The former farmland will be transformed into a peaceful meadow incorporating burial areas, new trees, wildflower habitats, paths and seating. The scheme is also intended to enhance local biodiversity.

Oxford City Council has allocated £2.4 million to the project. A previous public consultation found that 91% of respondents supported the proposals.
