News and stories about Oxford city’s May Morning celebrations, which mark the coming of spring and have taken place for over 500 years. The event typically attracts crowds of thousands of people – students and Oxford residents alike – who gather on Magdalen Bridge, and along the High Street, to hear choristers sing the Hymnus Eucharisticus from the top of Magdalen College’s Great Tower.
The City Council is working with partners to prepare the city for thousands of people to attend May Morning 2022 for the first time in-person since 2019.
Artists from Oxford and its twinned cities will be commissioned, and competitions are being held in local communities to make artworks to be placed on Magdalen Bridge and surrounding areas.
Regrettably Oxford’s 2020 May Morning has been cancelled in line with Government advice on mass gatherings during the coronavirus crisis.
