About Market Place, Abingdon-on-Thames
Abingdon-on-Thames is a market town that still proudly upholds the tradition of the Market Place as a focus of town life. The Market Place is central, easily reached, and is the scene of important occasions and music festivals but also of weekly and monthly markets, fairs and community events.
On any day of the week, it’s a lovely place to drink tea or a cappuccino in the sunshine, catch up with friends or plan a day out in the town and surrounding area. And there are activities all year round, including in winter, with more in the May to October period.
Market Day is Monday for a range of produce, plants, gifts, clothes and interesting food. The market is not open most Bank Holidays and during Abingdon Fair in October but there is fresh produce a lot of it low on food miles at least forty five weeks each year very reliably. The local farmers’ market takes place on the third Fridays.
Local clubs and societies are encouraged to use the area to promote their groups or a registered charity with a local connection.
