About Mercure Oxford Hawkwell House Hotel
Introduction
Located in the tranquil surroundings of Oxford, only a 10-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Oxford city centre, lies Oxford’s best-kept secret, Mercure Oxford Hawkwell House Hotel.
Boasting 77 bedrooms, each inspired by its location, this theme is carried throughout the hotel decor, with interiors inspired by the classic Oxford brogue and Oxford shirt.
A story of Oxford life is told in this idyllic location, set among three acres of private gardens. The perfect setting to enjoy a quintessentially British stay in one of the UK’s most historic cities.
History
Rich in history and character, the main hotel at Mercure Oxford Hawkwell House was once the birthplace of the famed explorer, treasure hunter, and polar medalist Francis Howard Bickerton in 1889. In tribute to his adventurous spirit, our hotel’s restaurant is aptly named ‘Frank’s.’
Just next door, Elm House once served as the home of British pilot and pioneering aerial photographer Major George W. Allen. Today, it offers 15 beautifully appointed bedrooms and private gardens, all available for exclusive hire, providing a perfect blend of history and luxury.
Among our most sought-after accommodations, The Coach House offers a tranquil retreat with stunning views of the hotel’s picturesque grounds, where these three storied buildings stand as testaments to a rich and fascinating past.
Dining
With two stunning eateries, the terrace bar offers a tranquil lounge overlooking the enchanted gardens, with a beautiful heated terrace for al fresco dining, making it perfect all year round for morning coffee, lunch and after-work sips & snacks.
Frank’s offers a light-hearted ambience, combining mouth-watering eats with heart-warming hospitality. Local is at the heart of the restaurant, using local produce from trusted local suppliers to maintain loyalty to sustainable farming methods.
There are three stunning private dining rooms, each offering the perfect backdrop to host a memorable celebration. Complement your celebration with a selection of private dining menus, accompanied by an array of wines and champagnes from a selected list. The Head Chef is also happy to create bespoke menus to accommodate individual requirements.
