About Oxford Golf Club

Located just two miles from the centre of the city on a small parcel of land covering just 86 acres many people find it hard to believe that there is a golf course here, but once you are on the course you will experience all of the tranquillity of being deep in the countryside.

The 18-hole par-70 course, built mainly on sand, drains extremely well, offering members and visitors excellent all year round playing conditions. Comprehensive practice facilities are also available; a silky-smooth putting green, an extensive short-game area with practice bunker, long game practice area with driving mats and netted swing bays.

Oxford Golf Club has a unique and varied history.

With origins of golf first played on the original Cowley Marsh site as far back as 1873, it’s safe to say that Oxford Golf Club is part of the fabric of the city. One of the oldest golf clubs in England and most certainly the oldest in Oxfordshire.

The original golf club to take up residence here was the Oxford University Golf Club in 1875. They remained the only golf club here until 1899. It was at this time that the Oxford City Golf Club joined the fold with the Oxford Ladies Golf Club joining two years later in 1901. In 1922 the club acquired the land of Southfield farm, the Southfield Estate was established and Southfield Golf Club was born.

The club continued to be managed by Oxford University Golf Club until just after the war in 1945 when the number of City and Lady Club members far outweighed that of the University members and so the University handed control over to Oxford City and Oxford Ladies. The three clubs continue to be associated with our location to this very day. In 2014 Southfield Golf Club changed its name to Oxford Golf Club to represent its prime location in the heart of Oxford.

Oxford Golf Club is at the forefront in thinking of the ‘modern golfer’. As one of the oldest golf clubs in England, we respect and value our tradition whilst working to meet the needs of the 21st century as a progressive golf club. Whether you’re a member, visitor, conference or event attendee we will ensure you of the very best guest experience possible, alongside glorious golf at our stunningly unique urban setting.
