About Oxford STEM Fest by Science Oxford

Science Oxford, part of the charitable organisation The Oxford Trust, is proud to announce Oxford STEM Fest, an event aimed at igniting curiosity and passion for STEM in the next generation.

The event will be open to all students in Year 9 and above and will include a stellar line-up of industry expert speakers, hands-on experiments, and exclusive giveaways.

Oxford STEM Fest will showcase the diversity of opportunities a career in STEM offers. The event aims to debunk the misconception that STEM careers follow a “one size fits all” approach, emphasising that the industry welcomes a wide array of talents and skills.

The event’s sponsor, a leading provider of high technology products and services to research and industry communities, Oxford Instruments, has fostered and supported enthusiasm for STEM among young people with its wide range of apprenticeship programmes and training schemes.

The day promises an enriching and memorable experience, kicking off with the Interactive Zone. Here, students will have the chance to get involved in hands-on experiments run by specialists involving liquid nitrogen ice cream, helium, magnets and marshmallows, to name just a few.

During the afternoon, there will be short 10 to 15 minute talks from experts who have pursued careers in STEM. The talks will cover a variety of themes, including diversity and sustainability, as well as delve into career journeys, milestone moments, and valuable lessons learnt.

The event will be moderated by BBC presenter Ayo Sokale, who will bring her wealth of experience as a spokesperson for STEM, championing neurodiversity and sustainability awareness, and her industry experience as a Chartered Civil Engineer for the Environment Agency. “I am so very excited about the upcoming event!”

Ayo says, “STEM FEST is going to be incredible and I can’t wait to be part of it and inspire a new generation of STEM leaders.”

The line-up of speakers during the day ranges from quantum and material sciences start-ups to academia and government. Speakers include representatives from the University of Oxford, Oxford Instruments NanoAnalysis, The Geological Society, Universal Quantum, Quantum Dice, Siemens Healthineers Magnet Technology, and Tokamak Energy.

This initiative, led by The Oxford Trust and sponsored by Oxford Instruments, is part of a long-standing collaboration between the two institutions, founded by Sir Martin Wood and Lady Audrey Wood in 1959 and 1985, respectively.

Oxford STEM Fest is a unique opportunity to nurture interest in STEM at a critical moment in a young person’s education as they explore opportunities for their future studies and careers. Places for the event are limited, and attendance is register-only.
