About The Perch Oxford

The Perch is one of Oxford’s oldest pubs. It’s just a few minutes walk from the Isis (Oxford’s stretch of the Thames) and Port Meadow, a historic common stretching from Jericho to Wolvercote.

In the summer, the garden is the envy of the whole city, and the 17th-century plaster-rubble building with its traditional thatched roof will charm even the most seasoned pub-goers.

There’s been a pub on the site for at least 800 years. In those 800 years, it has been a favourite of some of Britain’s best poets and authors, a frequent haunt of Inspector Morse, and even an influential venue on the British Jazz scene.

A full-scale renovation in Spring 2015 brought the traditional pub into the modern world, ensuring it’ll be around for the next 800 years.

It provides a refuge for everyone who loves great food and drink – whether they’re thirsty students, hungry walkers, exploring families, muddy dogs, adventurous visitors, or wedding parties.

The Perch provides the perfect venue for any event, with room for up to 200 guests.

The newly refurbished dining room is the epitome of traditional style and in the summer the garden makes a fabulous outdoor venue – there’s even a marquee if you’re not so willing to trust the Great British weather – perfect for weddings or special birthdays and anniversaries.

Hosting your event at the Perch also gives you access to their bespoke party menus.

In the summer, they host the annual Beer and Cider Festival as well as outdoor movie nights and music festivals.

Eat

A traditional approach with seasonal variations that bring something extra to the table.

The food has a classic British farmhouse focus allowing seasonality and quality of ingredients to lead the menus…home baked breads, pies, puddings & casseroles, river & sea fish, summer salads, potted meats & terrines, homemade chutneys, pickles & preserves, hedgerow desserts and a very fine Ploughman’s… You get the idea.

They’re proud of their suppliers and the food they make, so if you want to know anything about anything on the menu, just ask. They love it when you leave knowing more than when you arrived.

Drink

Something to quench every thirst – whatever the weather.

They update their drinks selection as often as they update the menus, so there’s always something new to suit the season. Whether you’re after a nice chilled cider from the garden’s shed bar during the summer, or a hearty winter ale to pep you up by the fire after a winter walk on Port Meadow.

They take good drinks just as seriously as they take good food. They work closely with breweries of all sizes to bring you a magnificent and ever-changing selection of ales, ciders, and perrys.

They also offer an extensive list of quality English wines to complement their menus, as well as a full bevy of soft drinks and hot beverages. They’re proud to say they probably have the best selection of English wines in the county.
