About Heythrop Park
Set within 440 acres of Oxfordshire parkland on the edge of the Cotswolds, Heythrop Park combines the grandeur of a historic country estate with the facilities of a modern resort-style retreat.
Originally built in the early 18th century for the Duke of Shrewsbury, the Grade II* listed manor house has undergone extensive restoration and now forms the centrepiece of an adults-only hotel experience, offering elegant accommodation, diverse dining, entertainment, spa facilities and championship golf.
History & Heritage
Designed by renowned architect Thomas Archer, Heythrop Park is one of England’s finest examples of Baroque country house architecture. Construction began in the early 1700s for Charles Talbot, the Duke of Shrewsbury, whose travels in Italy inspired the estate’s distinctive design.
Although a devastating fire destroyed much of the original interior in 1831, the house was later restored and rebuilt by architect Alfred Waterhouse. Over the centuries, the estate has served as a Jesuit college, a banking training centre and a hotel before reopening in its current form following a major refurbishment.
Stay
The hotel offers a wide range of accommodation, from contemporary guest rooms in the estate wings to character-filled rooms and suites within the historic manor house itself. Interiors blend period charm with modern comforts, while many rooms enjoy views across the landscaped grounds, golf course and surrounding countryside. Guests can choose from cosy rooms for short breaks through to spacious suites for special occasions.
Eat & Drink
Dining is a central part of the Heythrop Park experience, with several restaurants and lounges spread across the estate. Guests can enjoy relaxed breakfasts, afternoon teas, contemporary British cuisine and evening dining in elegant surroundings.
The Orangery provides a bright setting for coffee and light bites, while bars and lounges throughout the property offer cocktails, wines and comfortable spaces to unwind after a day exploring the estate.
Spa, Golf & Leisure
Heythrop Park’s extensive leisure facilities include a luxurious spa with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, hot tubs and treatment rooms. The estate is also home to a championship 18-hole golf course and driving range, making it a popular destination for golfing breaks.
Beyond the spa and golf course, guests can enjoy walking trails, gardens, outdoor activities, workshops and seasonal experiences designed to make the most of the countryside setting.
Entertainment & Experiences
Unlike many traditional country house hotels, Heythrop Park places a strong emphasis on entertainment. The hotel features two dedicated venues hosting live music, theatre productions, tribute acts, themed weekends and special events throughout the year.
From wine tastings and cocktail masterclasses to outdoor pursuits and cultural talks, there is an extensive programme of activities available for guests seeking either relaxation or adventure.
Explore the Area
Situated near Chipping Norton and within easy reach of some of the Cotswolds’ most picturesque villages, Heythrop Park provides an excellent base for exploring the region. Popular nearby attractions include Blenheim Palace, as well as the market towns of Burford and Bourton-on-the-Water.
Whether visiting for a countryside escape, spa retreat, golfing break or entertainment-led stay, Heythrop Park offers a distinctive blend of heritage, comfort and modern hospitality
