The UK’s first zero emission waste collection service, M&M Zero, is celebrating four years of sustainable operations across Oxfordshire.
Launched in 2021 by M&M Waste Solutions, M&M Zero was created to collect recyclable waste directly from homes using a fleet of fully electric, customised vans.
The initiative forms part of the wider M&M Group’s commitment to achieving zero emission, zero landfill and zero hassle waste management in Oxfordshire. The group also includes demolition specialists Maylarch.
In just the first nine months of 2025, M&M Zero’s electric vehicles have already saved 6.7 tonnes of carbon emissions — equivalent to charging 800,000 smartphones or the amount of carbon absorbed by 335 trees in a year. Each van is powered entirely by electricity and equipped with solar panels to generate the energy needed for its onboard systems.

Rob Fluckiger, Managing Director of the M&M Group, said the success of M&M Zero reflects the future direction of the waste industry as it strives to meet sustainability targets.
“There’s a misconception by many regarding how the waste sector operates,” he said. “Much of that derives from how we define waste, which to many is disposing of items which are no longer useful. But waste that is no longer useful to one person is useful to us.
“We’re proud that in the four years since M&M Zero was launched, we’ve maintained our zero emissions, zero landfill and zero hassle policy.”
All items collected by M&M Zero are recycled at the group’s state-of-the-art materials recycling facility in Cassington, helping to deliver a circular economy and create new recycling opportunities for residents and businesses.
Across the group, recycling rates continue to rise — Maylarch now diverts 98% of waste from landfill, while M&M Waste Solutions recycles more than 97% of materials.
The all-electric M&M Zero service handles quarter, half, and full van loads of commercial, industrial, household and builders’ waste, including wood, metal, cardboard, plasterboard, green waste, glass and electrical items.
It currently operates across central and western Oxfordshire, covering Oxford, Witney, Abingdon, Bicester, Woodstock and nearby towns and villages.
“The primary purpose of M&M Zero is to ensure nothing goes to landfill,” added Rob. “Once recyclable waste has been processed, it can be transformed into reusable products — from plastic items to furniture, clothing and metal goods.”
