The producers of Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical have announced a major UK and Ireland tour for 2027, with Oxford confirmed as one of the tour’s key stops.
The production will visit New Theatre Oxford from Tuesday 18 May to Saturday 22 May 2027, giving local audiences the chance to experience the acclaimed musical which tells the behind-the-scenes story of Live Aid, one of the most significant global music events in history.
The tour will open at Curve in Leicester in March 2027 before travelling to cities including Cardiff, Canterbury, Manchester, Edinburgh, Plymouth, Sunderland, Birmingham, Nottingham and Oxford, with further venues and dates still to be announced. Casting details and ticket on-sale dates will be confirmed in due course.
The announcement comes as Just For One Day enters its final weeks in the West End, where it is currently playing at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre until Saturday, 07 February 2026, ahead of a scheduled period of refurbishment at the venue.
Produced by Jamie Wilson Productions in association with Curve, the musical revisits the extraordinary events of 13 July 1985, when Live Aid — organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for the Ethiopian famine crisis — united an estimated 1.5 billion people around the world through simultaneous concerts in London and Philadelphia.
Bob Geldof said: “Just For One Day brilliantly reimagines why Live Aid worked then and why the humanity of that day still matters now. I’m delighted that more of the UK and Ireland will finally get to see this extraordinary and compelling musical. The reaction the show gets continually surprises and amazes me, standing ovations and people come back time and again, introducing the Live Aid story to new generations.”
Featuring music from some of the most iconic artists of the era — including Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Who, U2, Queen, Madonna, The Police, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Diana Ross — the production explores not only the music itself, but the personal stories, urgency and collective spirit that made Live Aid possible.
Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical is written by John O’Farrell and directed by Luke Sheppard, with musical supervision, arrangements and orchestration by Matthew Brind, choreography by Ebony Molina, and casting by Stuart Burt CDG. The wider creative team includes set design by Soutra Gilmour, costume design by Fay Fullerton, lighting by Howard Hudson, sound by Gareth Owen, and video and projection by Andrzej Goulding.
The musical originally premiered at The Old Vic in London in January 2024, becoming the theatre’s fastest-selling musical ever, before playing in Toronto and transferring to the West End in 2025. To date, the production has raised £1.5 million for The Band Aid Charitable Trust, with a percentage of ticket sales continuing to support the charity’s work.
As the UK and Ireland tour prepares to launch, the Oxford run at New Theatre Oxford promises to be a highlight of the 2027 cultural calendar, offering audiences the chance to relive — or discover for the first time — the story of the day rock ’n’ roll changed the world.
Tickets are available to purchase on the New Theatre Oxford website.
