Oxford High School champions global leadership on UN International Day of Education

Oxford High School GDST is marking the United Nations’ International Day of Education on 24 January by reaffirming its commitment to education as a fundamental human right and a powerful driver of global peace.

The school is highlighting its distinctive co-created educational model, which places student agency and leadership at the heart of learning.

Aligned with UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), Oxford High School goes beyond the traditional curriculum to develop students as confident global citizens and emerging thought leaders.

Central to this approach is the school’s prestigious annual programme of Sixth Form Conferences, where students design, organise and lead in-depth discussions on some of the world’s most pressing issues.

The conferences offer Sixth Form students the opportunity to explore complex global themes, including international and business economics, US foreign policy and the evolving challenges of Middle Eastern politics. By leading these events, students gain invaluable experience in critical thinking, diplomacy and public debate.

The 2026 conference series begins on Monday 26 January with a timely and topical event titled Democracy in Crisis. Organised by Year 12 students, the conference will feature high-profile academic speakers, including Dr Mats Ahrenshop and Humeyra Biricik, and will examine the challenges currently facing democratic systems across Europe and beyond.


These student-led conferences are a cornerstone of the Oxford High ethos, which emphasises independence, leadership and responsibility. Students chair debates, engage with international perspectives and develop the confidence to articulate informed views on global affairs.

Oxford High School GDST invites prospective families to experience this ethos first-hand at its upcoming Open Events: Reception & Prep School on Thursday 26 February 2026, and Senior & Sixth Form on Friday 06 March 2026.
