Spring is in full bloom, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with a walk among the UK’s iconic bluebells. With over half the world’s bluebells found in Britain, these delicate flowers turn ancient woodlands into mystical carpets of blue, enchanting visitors and inspiring generations.
The National Trust plays a vital role in protecting these native treasures, with a quarter of its woodlands considered ancient or semi-natural – perfect habitats for bluebells to flourish.
For families and nature lovers, late April to early May is the ideal time to enjoy the magical display, though visitors are reminded to stick to paths to protect the fragile plants.
Berkshire
Berkshire offers several must-visit locations. Basildon Park, near Reading, has launched a brand-new bluebell trail through previously unexplored woodland, open from 02 April to 31 May.

Maidenhead Commons features a 6.9-mile circular walk through ancient woods, past the historic Brick and Tile Works and Maidenhead Thicket, once notorious for highwaymen.
Buckinghamshire
Buckinghamshire also boasts spectacular spots. The Bradenham estate, near High Wycombe, is renowned for its beech woodland carpeted in bluebells, with the Red Lion pub nearby offering a convenient stop for refreshments.
Low Scrubs, close to Wendover, provides a short one-mile circular route with ancient trees and Iron Age relics.
The surrounding woodlands at Hughenden Manor and West Wycombe Park showcase spring bluebells along extensive footpaths and lakeside trails. Cliveden, near Maidenhead, combines woodland and garden walks, complete with a family play trail and views over the River Thames.

Oxfordshire
Oxfordshire offers equally stunning experiences. Watlington Hill provides a challenging seven-mile hike with panoramic views over the Oxfordshire Plain and frequent sightings of red kites and ravens.
For a gentler option, the 15-minute walk around Nuffield Place near Henley-on-Thames is perfect for children, pushchairs, or those seeking a shorter stroll surrounded by dense clusters of bluebells.
Whether you are an avid walker or simply seeking a peaceful family day out, these National Trust sites across Bucks, Berks, and Oxfordshire offer magical glimpses of Britain’s bluebell-filled woodlands this spring.
