Abingdon Christmas Extravaganza
PLEASE NOTE: Abingdon Chamber of Commerce, the event organisers, are not holding the event in 2021.
The Abingdon Christmas Extravaganza kicks off the festive season in Abingdon. It’s a family-focused festive event in the heart of the town where the community comes together as one.
In previous years, there has been Santa’s sleigh and lots of activities in Bath Street, Bury Street, Market Place and town shops, as well as activities for kids at St Nicolas Church.
Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council provides the Christmas Lights display in the town centre. A large Christmas tree is put up by staff with contributions from loyal Monday Charter Market traders.
Abingdon-on-Thames Chamber of Commerce then undertakes a lot of the organisation of a Christmas Extravaganza to celebrate the switching on of the lights.
A traditional parade takes place at midday with live music, which starts on Queen Street, then moves along Stert Street to East St Helen Street, through Lombard Street and back up West St Helen and the High Street to the Market Place.
Hopefully, we’ll see a return of this popular festive event in the not too distant future.
