About Paris in a Jazz Age

Paris in a Jazz Age… The Memoirs of Eloise DeFleur.

Musical memories from a Parisien cafe, a journey through the vibrant Parisian swing scene of the 20’s, 30’s & 40’s.

Although this is not primarily a dance event, swing/balboa dancers are welcome in the floor area.

Join us for a vibrant journey through the songs, the clubs, and the atmosphere of Paris in the Jazz Age, seen through the memories of Eloise DeFleur portrayed by Airlie Scott and her talented band as she sifts through the music, her love story, and tales of her Parisian life. A hot jazz sandwich of French chanson, gypsy jazz, early swing, blues, and American songbook classics popular in Paris from the roaring twenties through the occupation to Liberation at the end of the second world war.

Jazz vocalist & actress Airlie Scott (ProntoSwing, UK, Europe, Westend, Broadway theatre credits) joined by the melodic playing & captivating vocals of clarinetist/singer Alice Mary Jelaska & early swing accents of hot cornet player Leigh Henson (Mardi Gras band) with a hot rhythm section- fiery, melodic playing of hot jazz guitarist Andy Ruiz Palma (La Bouche Manouche, Bright Stars of Jazz) & the highly sought after hot club guitarist David Ahmed (The Hot Club de Londres) & top London double bass player Alan Gibson.

Reviews

“The sold-out crowd swapped the right bank of the River Thames for the Left Bank of the Seine, sitting amongst the tables of a Parisian-style cafe they were captivated by singer Airlie Scott. She transformed the Riverhouse Barn into the Années Folles, the rich social, artistic, and cultural melting pot that was Paris 100 years ago.”

Alban Low The Art of Jazz Blog

“The Hot Jazz Vagabonds delighted the audience with French chanson, American Songbook standards & jazz gems. The highly effective rhythm section lent itself perfectly to the dramatic & talented vocal style of Airlie Scott.”

Tad Newton, Walnut Tree Jazz Club.
