About Alkerton Household Waste Recycling Centre

Located a short drive from Banbury, Alkerton HWRC is a key part of Oxfordshire’s commitment to waste reduction and responsible recycling. Operated by W&S Recycling on behalf of Oxfordshire County Council, the site caters to a wide catchment of residents from the north of the county.

Visitors will find a well-organised, spacious facility that accepts an impressive variety of waste streams, helping to ensure as little as possible goes to landfill. You can bring:

  • Garden waste and general household rubbish
  • Paper, cardboard, glass, and hard/soft plastics
  • Electrical appliances (from kettles to fridges)
  • Scrap metal and wood
  • Rubble and small-scale DIY waste
  • Batteries, lightbulbs, gas bottles and cooking oil
  • Textiles and shoes
  • Tyres (limited quantities)

A small reuse area on site gives pre-loved items a second chance, and staff are generally on hand to assist and provide guidance. Vans and trailers are permitted with a free online permit. Trade waste is not accepted, and pedestrians are not allowed for safety reasons, though cyclists are welcome.

It’s advised to sort waste before arrival to make your visit faster and more efficient. Be aware that queues can build during weekends and bank holidays. Occasionally, the centre may close early if waiting times become excessive, especially in poor weather conditions or during high-demand periods.

Alkerton is an example of Oxfordshire’s wider effort to keep recycling rates high. With friendly staff, an efficient layout, and a broad range of accepted materials, it’s a reliable and well-regarded destination for all your household waste and recycling needs.
