Forty-seven new charities were registered in Oxfordshire during the 12 months to 31 July 2026, with five established with purposes linked to poverty prevention, economic development, community development or employment, according to an analysis of Charity Commission data.
The five organisations represented 11 per cent of all new charity registrations in the county during the period.
Across Oxfordshire, there are 660 registered charities whose purposes fall within those areas, according to the analysis by specialist insurer Ansvar Insurance. The Charity Commission’s register records charities according to their stated areas of work and charitable purposes.
The figures offer a snapshot of continued activity among organisations seeking to address financial hardship, create employment opportunities and strengthen local communities.
Ansvar said the registrations reflected continued interest among people in establishing organisations to respond to needs within their communities.
“Charities are often founded because individuals recognise there is a gap in support and want to make a positive difference,” said Adam Tier, head of underwriting at Ansvar Insurance.
The analysis covers charities registered between 01 August 2025 and 31 July 2026. It identifies organisations whose charitable purposes include the prevention or relief of poverty and economic, community development or employment.
The findings come as charities across the country continue to contend with the practical demands of maintaining services, including securing funding, recruiting volunteers and managing their organisations.
For newly established charities, registration is only the beginning. Establishing effective governance, managing volunteers and addressing organisational risks can all become important as an organisation develops.
Tier said the latest figures showed people continuing to establish charities intended to support their local communities, while stressing the importance of building organisational resilience from the outset.
The Charity Commission’s register provides a public record of registered charities and allows searches by location, charitable purpose and other classifications. Its current search data lists thousands of charities working in Oxfordshire across a much wider range of purposes.
For Oxfordshire, the latest registrations provide another indication of activity within the county’s voluntary sector, particularly among organisations whose stated aims include helping people experiencing hardship or creating opportunities for local communities.
