City Sightseeing Oxford is taking part in a global fundraising day to support the construction of a new medical centre in Cacuaco, a municipality in Luanda, Angola.
The open-top bus tour operator will donate £1 for every passenger travelling on its tours on Saturday 03 October as part of the third Changing Lives Day, organised by City Sightseeing Cares.
The medical centre will include consultation rooms, a maternity ward and a pharmacy, providing essential healthcare for a community where the nearest hospital is more than 30 miles away.
Changing Lives Day fundraising events in October 2025 and May 2026 have so far raised approximately £34,300 towards the project.
City Sightseeing Oxford said previous fundraising has contributed 67 per cent of the funding required, with the completed centre expected to directly benefit more than 6,300 people.
Kamini Patel, retail and tourism manager at City Sightseeing Oxford, said the Oxford operator was proud to support the initiative.
“This life-changing project will directly benefit more than 6,300 people and previous strong fundraising efforts have helped us raise 67 per cent of the funding required,” she said.
She encouraged passengers to take part in the fundraising effort by travelling with City Sightseeing Oxford on Changing Lives Day.
The initiative is part of City Sightseeing Cares, the social responsibility programme of City Sightseeing Worldwide, which was launched in 2023 to support communities through fundraising, donations and services.
The programme has previously supported projects including the construction of 12 water wells in 12 communities in the Upper Peruvian Amazon. The project has provided more than 2,200 people with access to clean water, alongside partnerships with local education and health networks.
City Sightseeing Oxford is operated by Oxford Bus Company, part of Go-Ahead Group’s Go-Ahead Bus division in the Thames Valley. Its hop-on, hop-off tours stop at 18 locations across Oxford, with recorded commentary available in 14 languages.
Passengers taking a City Sightseeing Oxford tour on 03 October will contribute to the Changing Lives Day fundraising campaign through the £1 donation per passenger. Donations can also be made directly to the campaign.
