Pupils at Cokethorpe School in Witney are celebrating a strong set of GCSE results, following the school’s best Upper Sixth results in recent years.
The independent school reported a particularly strong performance at the top end of the GCSE grading scale, with 12% of all grades awarded at Grade 9 and 27% at Grades 9–8.
Just under half of all grades were awarded at Grades 9–7, while three quarters were at Grades 9–6, marking another positive set of results for the school’s Fifth Form.
The results continue an upward trend at Cokethorpe and follow last week’s Upper Sixth results, which the school described as its strongest in recent years by every measure.
The school said the latest results reflect its continued focus on strengthening teaching and learning across all year groups, while also highlighting the individual achievements behind the headline figures.

Among those celebrating were pupils who achieved strings of top grades, alongside others whose results represented significant personal progress and determination.
Head Dr Sarah Squire praised the cohort for their commitment and resilience.
“Our Fifth Form pupils have worked tirelessly in pursuit of these grades and can be hugely proud of what they have achieved today,” she said.
She highlighted the individual stories behind the results, including pupils who joined Cokethorpe from OLA midway through their GCSE studies.
She also pointed to pupils who continued to pursue interests and commitments beyond the classroom during their studies, including taking part in a music tour in Belgium and completing an Arkwright Scholarship.
“Congratulations to all our Fifth Form pupils,” Dr Squire said. “I’m excited to see everything they go on to accomplish at Sixth Form and beyond.”
The results come as Cokethorpe continues to position academic achievement alongside a broad programme of extracurricular opportunities.
Founded in 1957, the co-educational day school caters for pupils aged four to 18 and is set within 150 acres of parkland in Oxfordshire. The school has been co-educational since 1992.
