Academic publisher plans to move from Milton Park to Cantay House in 2028, with proposals for public-facing events and community spaces.

International academic publisher Taylor & Francis plans to relocate its Oxfordshire headquarters from Milton Park in Abingdon to a renovated city-centre building in Oxford, with the move expected to take place in early 2028.

The company will occupy Cantay House on Park End Street, close to Oxford railway station. The 30,000 sq ft premises are undergoing extensive renovation and are intended to accommodate the publisher’s Oxfordshire-based employees alongside facilities designed to bring researchers, authors and members of the public together.

Taylor & Francis plans to include a café, event facilities and co-creation spaces where visitors can engage with authors and experts, and browse and purchase its publications. The company has not provided further details of how the public-facing facilities will operate.

Alex Robinson, managing director of Academic and chief commercial officer at Taylor & Francis, said the new location would help the company develop closer relationships with Oxford’s research community, universities, residents and visitors.

The proposed facilities are intended to support knowledge-sharing and provide opportunities for people to engage with academic and professional information beyond traditional university and research settings.

The relocation follows the end of the company’s lease at Milton Park. Stuart Blackley, executive vice-president of operations at Taylor & Francis, said the choice of location reflected feedback from employees about transport connections, facilities and spaces that would support collaboration.

The company said the renovated building would meet high sustainability standards while retaining its original character. Further details of the refurbishment and its environmental specifications have not been disclosed.

Founded more than 200 years ago, Taylor & Francis publishes academic books and journals across a wide range of disciplines through its Taylor & Francis, Routledge and F1000 imprints. Its portfolio includes more than 2,500 journals and 8,400 new books annually, and the company works with more than 700 scholarly societies.

The move will bring the publisher’s Oxfordshire headquarters into the city centre, placing its planned public-facing facilities within walking distance of the railway station and close to the city’s wider network of public transport.

The relocation is expected to be completed in early 2028.
