Residents, families and staff at Iffley Residential and Nursing Home enjoyed a memorable evening as the home hosted a charity quiz night inspired by the hit TV show The Chase.

Organised by Activities Coordinator Sarah Sherriff, the event brought together the local community for a lively evening of general knowledge, entertainment and shared experiences. Guests gathered for a fun-filled night designed to encourage interaction across generations, with residents, relatives and staff all taking part.

The highlight of the evening came with a surprise appearance from Darragh Ennis, one of the show’s well-known quiz experts. Hosting the event himself, Ennis quickly engaged the audience with his humour and approachable style, creating an energetic and welcoming atmosphere as teams competed to answer questions.

Family members praised the event, with one guest describing the evening as “truly special, and all for a great cause”. Residents also welcomed the opportunity to meet the television personality, take photographs and enjoy informal conversations. One resident described him as a “down to earth guy who was so friendly to talk to”.

Beyond the entertainment, the quiz night had a charitable focus, raising £200 for NSPCC, Sanctuary Care’s charity of the year. The funds will contribute to the organisation’s work supporting children and young people.

Staff at the care home highlighted the importance of events like this in enriching residents’ daily lives and strengthening community connections. Sarah Sherriff said the evening reflected the home’s commitment to creating meaningful and engaging experiences.

“Coming together as a home to create these memorable experiences is at the core of what we do here, it’s so rewarding to see the residents having so much fun!” she said.

The success of the event demonstrates how community-focused activities can bring people together while supporting important causes.

For residents at Iffley Residential and Nursing Home, the quiz night offered not only entertainment but also a valuable opportunity to connect with others and be part of a wider community initiative.

Sanctuary Care has been delivering care to older people since 1995, offering residential, dementia, nursing, respite, day and palliative services across England and Scotland. At the heart of its approach is a commitment to enriching the lives of residents, supporting its teams and making a positive impact within the communities it serves.
