About City of Oxford Choir
Founded in 1977 to host a visiting choir from Leiden in the Netherlands, one of Oxford’s twin cities, the City of Oxford Choir is a vibrant and accomplished amateur choir dedicated to delivering high-quality choral music in Oxford and beyond.
Under the expert direction of conductor Duncan Aspden (since 2005) the choir performs a rich and varied repertoire spanning classical, contemporary, and lesser-known works, often collaborating with professional soloists and orchestras.
With a reputation for musical excellence and a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere, the choir attracts singers from across Oxfordshire and stages at least three major concerts each year. Performances are typically held in iconic venues such as the University Church of St Mary the Virgin and the Sheldonian Theatre.
Whether you’re a seasoned choral music lover or discovering it for the first time, the City of Oxford Choir offers an inspiring and memorable musical experience.
Performances
The choir gives four concerts a year both in Oxford and further afield.
In a city rich with historic performance spaces they have performed in Oxford’s Town Hall, the University Church, SJE Arts and several College chapels. They also perform outside of Oxford both locally (Abingdon, Windsor, London) and internationally (the Netherlands, Norway).
