This October will see Oxford’s beloved Ice Rink celebrate its 40th anniversary providing skating fun with a Back-to-the-80s Gala on Saturday 05 October.

Ice skating fans will get two chances to see this retro funfest, with shows at 2.30pm and 6.00pm, featuring the cream of the city’s skating talent from the Oxford School of Skating and Oxford Ice Academy.

The Back-to-the-80s Gala will see skaters dressed in retro outfits, dancing to songs that were big hits from the decade the rink opened. Everyone attending the show is guaranteed to feel like they’ve stepped back into the 80s!

Jane De Lange, Skate School Co-ordinator at Oxford Ice Rink, said: “We are really excited to celebrate this major milestone for the Ice Rink!

“In August, we completed an extensive renovation, including a brand-new ice pad with updated logos and hockey lines, and a new energy-saving ceiling. So, we are looking forward to showing it off.

Tickets are priced at £12 per person or you can buy a family (4 people) ticket for £40 and under 3’s go free.

Councillor Chewe Munkonge, Cabinet Member for a Healthy Oxford, Oxford City Council, said: “For 40 years, Oxford Ice Rink has been at the heart of our community, offering fun, fitness, and a space where people of all ages can come together.

“With its recent upgrades, the rink is now better than ever, ensuring it continues to provide a fantastic experience for everyone from first-time skaters to seasoned pros.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Back to the 80s Gala and the Big Open Weekend to celebrate this exciting milestone.”

More Community Leisure Trust, in partnership with Serco Leisure, manages five Oxford facilities, including the ice rink, Ferry Leisure Centre and Hinksey Outdoor Pool on behalf of Oxford City Council.
