Art lovers in Oxfordshire are being invited to explore the creative partnership of renowned local artists David Lockett and Peter Ross, whose works will be showcased in a new exhibition at The Oxfordshire Museum.
The free exhibition opens on Saturday 06 September and runs until Sunday 21 September, featuring landscapes, portraits and abstract pieces that reflect the artists’ shared journey spanning more than sixty years.
David Lockett will present his latest works, mainly landscapes and seascapes, created through direct observation and plein air sketching before being developed into oil paintings on canvas.

He also handcrafts and paints his own frames, aiming to bring expressive elements of colour, tone and texture to each piece.
Peter Ross will exhibit paintings produced over the past fifty years, drawing inspiration from family life, global conflicts and tributes to influential artists.

His entry “Emma Groves, Belfast 1978”, focusing on a victim of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, won the Oxfordshire Museum’s Open Art competition in 2024.
The two artists have held several joint exhibitions together, with a friendship and creative bond lasting more than six decades. Most of the paintings on display will be available for purchase, with Lockett also offering giclée prints and postcards of selected works.
Following this exhibition, the museum will open its third annual Open Art Competition Exhibition on 27 September, showcasing contemporary artworks from across Oxfordshire.
Councillor Neil Fawcett, Deputy Leader of Oxfordshire County Council, said:
“It is a pleasure to welcome David and Peter back to The Oxfordshire Museum for this exceptional exhibition.
“Their enduring friendship and creative partnership have enriched our community and inspired generations of artists.
“We are proud to celebrate their achievements and to provide a platform for their remarkable artistic voices.”
