Aureus School student Roy Hehea represented his school with pride today as he laid a wreath on a special service train at Didcot Parkway Station for the annual ‘Poppies to Paddington’ remembrance initiative.
The event, organised by Great Western Railway, brings together wreaths from communities across the region, which are carried by train to London Paddington. There, they form part of a collective tribute to honour members of the Armed Forces ahead of Remembrance Day.
Each year, the project connects towns, cities and villages through a shared act of reflection and gratitude.

Roy was selected to take part in this significant moment on behalf of Aureus School. For him, the occasion held a deeply personal meaning: his mother serves in the military, making his role in the ceremony a tribute not only from the school community but also from his own family.
Speaking about the experience, Roy said: “I was honoured to lay the wreath on behalf of Aureus School for the Poppies to Paddington remembrance event. This day is very special to me as my mum serves to help keep the country safe.”
Staff at the school praised Roy for the maturity and respect he showed throughout the event. Mr Hayde, Head of PE at Aureus, said: “We are incredibly proud of Roy for representing Aureus with such respect and maturity. Taking part in ‘Poppies to Paddington’ is a wonderful way to honour those who have served and to show gratitude for their sacrifices.”

After being placed onboard the service, Roy’s wreath travelled with many others to London Paddington. Upon arrival, the wreaths will join tributes from across the region, symbolising unity, remembrance and collective respect for the Armed Forces and their families.
The school said the event provided a meaningful opportunity for students to engage with the themes of remembrance and service, while contributing to a wider display of community solidarity across the South and South West.
