Oxfordshire residents are being invited to attend a series of free events this year to explore the world of electric vehicles (EVs).
The Go Electric Oxfordshire programme will tour every district, offering hands-on opportunities to learn about EVs, test drive different models, and discover a range of charging solutions.
The events are open to all and organised in partnership between Oxfordshire County Council and the city and district councils, with additional support from Let’s Experience Electric.
Councillor Ben Higgins, Cabinet Member for Future Economy and Innovation at Oxfordshire County Council, said:
“These free events are part of our programme to boost confidence among drivers considering a switch to electric vehicles. Alongside expanding the county’s public EV charging network, we want residents to feel informed and comfortable with the vehicles they may soon be driving.”
The programme kicks off on Saturday 21 March at the Woolgate Centre in Witney from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Residents can register their interest via Eventbrite.
Attendees will have the chance to test drive a wide range of EVs from local dealerships, receive expert tips, and explore options such as car clubs, leasing plans, and e-bikes. The events will also provide practical information on renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Councillor Andrew Prosser, West Oxfordshire District Council’s Executive Member for Climate Action and Nature Recovery, added:
“It’s fantastic to see events like this in Witney, giving residents the opportunity to experience EVs firsthand. We hope it encourages more people to consider switching to electric vehicles.”
Further events are scheduled in Abingdon, Banbury, Oxford, and Didcot later this year. Funding for the initiative comes from a combination of government Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) grants and contributions from local dealerships and stallholders.
