Oxford Bus Company and Waterperry Gardens partner to offer a greener way to reach one of Oxfordshire’s most popular attractions

Visitors looking to enjoy the beauty of Waterperry Gardens this summer can now travel more sustainably thanks to the launch of a new weekend and bank holiday shuttle bus service.

Oxford Bus Company and Waterperry Gardens have partnered to introduce the new WP1 shuttle service, which begins operating on Saturday, 13 June. The seasonal service will run between Thornhill Park & Ride, Wheatley and Waterperry Gardens every weekend and on bank holidays until 30 August, calling at all local bus stops along the route.

The initiative aims to make it easier for residents and visitors to access the historic gardens while supporting efforts to reduce car journeys and lower carbon emissions.

Set in the Oxfordshire countryside near Wheatley, Waterperry Gardens is one of the county’s best-loved visitor attractions. The site features 20 acres of beautifully landscaped ornamental gardens, alongside an extensive plant centre, gallery, museum, garden and gift shop, and tea shop.

The new transport link forms part of Waterperry Gardens’ ongoing commitment to sustainability and follows a partnership with Oxford Bus Company built around shared environmental values.

Luke Marion, Managing Director of Oxford Bus Company, said:

“This is an exciting new partnership based on shared sustainability values.

“The new WP1 service is designed to help people travel to and from Waterperry Gardens via bus during its peak summer period, with Thornhill Park & Ride acting as a key connectivity hub.

“All the details of the new timetable are on our website and we look forward to welcoming people on board across the summer to visit one of Oxfordshire’s premier attractions.”

Simon Buchanan, Steward of Waterperry House and Gardens, welcomed the launch and the opportunities it creates for visitors and local communities.

He said:

“We hope that this new venture will help both the local and wider communities enjoy more sustainable access both to and from our beautiful gardens and the wonderful activities that take place here; horticultural, artistic and philosophical.”

The new service arrives as Waterperry Gardens prepares for a busy summer season, with a programme of events, exhibitions, workshops and family-friendly activities taking place throughout the coming months.

By improving public transport links to the attraction, the partnership aims to encourage more visitors to explore Waterperry Gardens while helping to reduce the environmental impact of travel across Oxfordshire.
